Hi, I'm going to replace my 9gig drive with a 20gig drive in my Win98
machine, both formatted with Fat16.  I'd like to just copy over the whole C:
drive onto the new disk rather than spend hours reinstalling Win98.  Can I
do this with an xcopy32 command, and what's the procedure I should follow?
thx much!  A url giving instructions would be great too!

If you really want to avoid ALL the trouble, spend $15 and buy
DriveCopy from PowerQuest, the guys who made PartitionMagic.
That program is designed to do exactly what you need. After you're
done, pass it on to your friend who's also doing upgrades.

Both Maxtor and Western Digital provide setup disks with their drives to do
all the work for you....and if you don't buy one of those models, their
websites have the utility for d/l.

I gotta say...I copied a 4.5Gb SCSI to an 7.9GB IDE using xcopy32 and
it worked flawlessly.  but i might have just been lucky.

clone of the source disk.

I just did that and I used the Maxtor utility:

http://www.maxtor.com/Softwaredownload/main/MAXBLAST.EXE

Mainly because I had a maxtor HDD, but it will work with any type,
and it works really well!

I installed the new disk as master, and the old disk as slave, then booted
from
the floppy that MAXBLAST.EXE created.

It allowed me to initialise and format the new HDD, then copy everything
from
the old to the new in one step.

Dead easy! Been running from the new HDD for over a week with no problems.
