Hi Don,

Actually, there are a range of options with these things. There's a a couple
of kits available that are actually cheaper than either a TSW or an ECCI
wheel and peddles, and I think the steering and peddle feel is far superior.

Here's their web address:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

Interestingly enough, they're designed and made in Australia, but they have
distributors all over the place, more or less.

Anyway, I can't say enough about these things ... I was hesitant about
buying one, but after about five minutes of trying it out, I knew that
nothing else would come within a country mile of it, in any criteria.

Cheers,
TB

Tony,

Thanbks for your response.  I think I will followup  on that. GP
Legends has pushed me over the edge...... :)

Thank you.

How Good are Hyper Racing Simulator Wheel& Pedals?

by Jeff Ha » Thu, 26 Nov 1998 04:00:00

All,

I contemplating buying the basic kit for the Hyper Racing Simulator
and wonder how good the wheel and pedals are.  I have a Thomas
Superwheel (old) and was just going to build my own***pit but saw
that there is now a basic kit with plans for the hyper simulator and
might do that to make my job easier.

Any feedback regarding this set of equipment would be appreciated.  I
am also curious about the software interface and whether it works ok.

Does the brake pedal acf more realistic?

How is the durability of the pots?

Thank you.

Hi Jeff,

I've had a Hyperstimulator for about 3 months now and am more then please
with it.

The feel of the steering and peddle unit is second to none. The steering is
nice and adjustable (for tension as well as height and reach), and the feel
of the break peddle is very accurate; it really helps me in holding the
breaks on the edge of locking up going into Parabolica in GPL.

The software interface is actually quite a nice feature. I didn't really
think I'd be using it that much (i.e. using it to re-program the button set
on the steering wheel and such), but I've found that it is quite easy to use
(no more dragging the keyboard over to SHIFT+R to reset the car after I've
stuffed it into that same damn tree at Adenaur Forest for the 5th time in a
row).

So far, the pots seem to be holding up quite well. They are easy to replace
(I was given a replacement pot, but I don't think I'll be using it). I got
the unit from Rory Brown, and he also built and set up the units for the
Players Racing Team (CART), and he said that they have to replace the pot
for steering about once a year. But bear in mind that they use these things
as promotional tools at Indy car races and they are literally used all day
long by any ham-fisted troglodyte that asks, "Mind if I try?"

I've used it an average of 3 hours a day since I got it, and nothing has
gone wrong with it.

As far as I'm concerned, the Hyper unit is it ... everything else is just a
toy.

Cheers,
TB

Jeff,
I went ahead and bought a Hyper Stimulator kit last April.  Kit was great -
went together with no problems - all the wood (MDF) is accurately cut and
all hardware supplied.   The wheel and pedals are the best parts - the wheel
( I got the unit with the 12 programmable buttons) is solid/suede covered
and fits into a large solid metal box.  Very smooth operation and feels
great.  The pedals are even better - big - sit up straight - metal (in metal
box) - and a great progressive feel to the brake pedal -very short travel
distance and feels great.    The software supplied with my unit was for a
DOS set-up and works fine ( someone should teach them to use a spellchecker
though).  I have since downloaded the Windows interface from their site and
that works just as well as the DOS interface - just a bit tidier.   Overall
I am very happy with my kit (now painted Jordan yellow) and its just perfect
for GP2 and GPLs.  Only drawback is that they are expensive - but if you
want quality - you have tp be prepared to pay.
