Can't comment on the last three, but yes, it is an excellent wheel/pedals
for GP2, ICR2 & N2. I have a GP500 which was the hand made forerunner to
the mass produced F1 Sim and can thoroughly recommend it for all three of
the top sims.

By setting the pedals to dual axes operation you can take advantage of
GP2's modelling of simultaneous application of brake and accelerator.
This allows you to do true left foot braking.

Cheers,
Richard

Great, just what I wanted to hear! I've just bought a scanner so
I'll most likely pick up the steering wheel and pedals next week.

Just out of interest, but how easy is it to re-programme the
buttons on the steering wheel? Does it use a normal joystick port
or does it come with it's adapter and if it does, is it PCI or
ISA? (I've noticed that the adverts say Plug 'n' Play).

Thanks in advance.

I've never seen more than pictures of the actual F1 Sim, but with the
GP500, it plugs into a standard gameport.

The gear shift paddles are buttons 1 & 2 of joystick 1 and the two wheel
mounted buttins are 1 & 2 from joystick 2. There's a utility (GP2 Button)
available which allows you to map the buttons to keystrokes for GP2 and
other games - have a look at Pieter's GP2 site to get GP2 Button.

Digital Edge F1 SIM Steering Wheel & Pedals - any good?

Hi.....I too own an F1 Sim, and it is the ultimate wheel and pedal set-up.

Actually, all the F1 Sim's are also still hand made.

This unit is all steel construction.
Precision made components.
Leather bound quick release steering wheel.
Fully adjustable pedal rake angle and tension/resistance.
Adjustable steering centering.
Quick release fixings from the mounting board.
(I would recommend buying the quick release desk fixings, eg:- 2 small
brass fixings which are flush mounted into your desk, that way you do not
need to use the large mounting board).

Depends on the software you are using it with? if the software allows the
buttons to be used, its as easy as the program allows it to be?(usually
pretty easy)

It uses one single standard game/joystick port (for both the wheel and
pedals), however, you can if you wish, set up the wheel and pedals on
separate axis for separate acceleration and braking, but this requires a
special lead and another game/joystick port? (you do not really need this
feature though. unless you *really* want to drive using left foot braking)

BUY ONE TODAY, you will not regret it if you are serious about your
racing.

Doesn't the F1 Sim allow the pedals to be reconfigured simply by setting
a switch?

Believe me, once you've raced GP2 with dual axes operation, you will
never want to go back to single axis throttle/accelerator again ;-)

No, its not quite as easy as that?

To have the pedals and wheel on separate joystick axis, you need an extra
cable, (to convert the wheel adaptor which normally plugs into the pedal
unit to a game adaptor), and two game ports, or a device like the "alpha
twin" which uses the functions of two game ports from one game port?

The wheel connects to the extra cable (which has a game port adaptor at
one end), and the pedals remain connected to the original game port.

And you need to reset a switch inside the pedal unit.

Just change the setting of that switch - it will work, believe me <g>

Thanks to everyone who helped me out on this. I'll be
getting the F1 SIM in a few days.
