I won't argue with that. However there are times I have to wonder, how did
he do that.

Having experienced VROC for many years I found the Sierra servers a complete
surprise. Full of kids swearing at each other and wrecking before the start
line. I was genuinely shocked as I had never experienced anything like it in
sim racing, FPS yes but not sim racing.

That is not to say GPL pick up races are perfect examples of gentlemen
racers and yes I have seen a few episodes at T1 Monza and news of deliberate
wreckers gets around but they are few and far between in my own experience.

Pick up races have an element of risk but I wouldn't tar VROC with the same
brush as Sierra pick up races.

Cheers

<shrug>  same behavoir, just amplified on Sierra because of the far
greater numbers.  Everything you mention above, I saw on vroc multiple
times.  And that was several years back fwiw.

I did say in my experience. Possibly the GPL drivers are a bit older and GPL
is a bit less accessible for the casual do badder. These days VROC consists
mainly of the hardened GPLer. I've droppped in a few times and had some
great races, but the numbers racing now are low. It could be clouding my
memory of a few years back mind.

My experience of the Sierra servers was quite limited but it just seemed
mad!

Well, I can say that Gregor Huttu is NOT a setup guru at Dega or Daytona and
probably not at ovals.  Roadies are different than ovals and a TRUE
dega-head can blow any of those guys doors off.  They spend all day every
day trying to find hundreths of a second.

Which was the same over on the NROS back before that... and even before on
Hawaii.

The more things change, the less they do.

I didn't intend to imply cheating: I'll repeat: if you can do speeds
like this <legally>, then I'd like to see the setups responsible.
And someone responded, and once I get it I'll take a look. I am
skeptical because setups over at Setup-Gurus don't seem to go
that fast.  I.E. (Tally lap speeds in race, read as +/- 1 MPH
at 70/Clear, 65 tape):

Default Papy Fast: 185
Huttu's setup: 188
Reasonable: 190
Questionable: 195
Highly Doubtful: 200
Likely cheater 201+

And note I drive with no aids, not even steering assist-perhaps that
is the problem, those apocryphal "aids-only" super-fast setups...

Yes, i suppose if they were subtle it would be hard to prove - this
stuff not detected by Replay analyser? Or picked up on a Sierra server?

There's ways around anything if someone really wants to; Punkbuster
included.
