When I started simracing a few years ago I wore shoes when I raced.

I quickly migrated to slippers, and then to socks.  I've been racing in regular
white athletic socks (either ankle high runner's socks or over the calf socks)
for a couple years now.

I figure eventually I'll migrate to bare feet, which will of course allow the
skin on my feet to grow around the pedals so that I'll effectively be one with
the pedals.  Should I later decide that I want to buy a pedal set with a clutch,
I guess I'll be screwed... :-)

I started out with a Thrustmaster T2.  Now I have a LWFF with CH Pedals (I use
the CH Pedals for GPL, and the stock LWFF pedals for other sims such as Nascar
Legends, SCGT, etc.).

I've always raced either in socks or barefoot.  Shoes are way too cumbersome.

I wear my well-worn in racing shoes (high top black Simpson's).  I need the
heel cup...for long races where I'd get "heel" burn in either a real race
car or simulation setup.  I also use a home-made foot rest...for the brake
foot....keeps it totally relaxed but only a 1/4 inch off the brake (to the
left side)....without shoes...the brake foot rest isn't usable.  While I can
rest my foot on the floor.....the time it takes to get it to the brake is
too long.....bang...you are in the wreck!

Skiboots! (Is that what they call a stiff setup?)
No, seriously I don't really give attention to what I wear.
Mostly I just use my Nike sneakers or my slippers.
I don't change clothes or shoes for racing <g>

I wear oridnary tennis socks or if I think of it I use some thicker socks
called 'Totes'... they have some small ***y pads on the sole which give
good grip on the pedals. I do this whatever pedals I am using (LWFF, MSFF or
Thrustmaster F1 \ Nascar Pro).

Guess you could put a coffee warmer under your heal to give you that
'hot heal' feel. :-O

That is the key, allowing the foot to slide/slip over the pedals.  If
one is wearing something with a "sticky" sole, it is next to impossible
to "feather" the pedals to achieve smooth action.

I wear a pair of "Sperry - Top Sider" moccasins/deck-shoes with well worn
*** soles.  The soles are almost totally smooth.  This allows the pedals
to slide across the sole, but with the ***, still keep my feet from
sliding off the pedals all together.  The shoes never leave the side of
my "cockpit".  I make sure that I never wear them somewhere where the
fine patina  of dust/dirt on the soles will get washed/rubbed away.
If they get wet, then the *** takes over and they become too sticky on
the pedals.

For me, the extra padding of the sole is better than socks, as I spend
way too much time at the controls....

The lady I talked to from the Skip Barber racing school suggested that I get
some wrestling shoes for when I attend the course.  Do you remember what store,
and how much they were?  Thanks.

Just sweatsocks.  I got into the habit with my T2.  Wearing shoes, my feet kept
slipping off the damn rollers.  I got used to the socks, ahnd use the same for
my TSW2.

Socks for when I drive games and I wear a set a shoes a buddy made up for
when I run Solo ll.  He does shoe inserts for a living so he did some
special rounded soles and a bit on the narrow side since the pedals are
really close on my solo ll car.

Check Footlocker or Sports Authority.  Any sporting goods store near a
high school sells 'em.  I use wrestling shoes for go kart racing.
Many people do.
