It would be fine for ***, but for anything in 2D and text it would be
slightly blurred and would be *** the eyes due to the low 50hz refresh
rate of TV's. Now if you forked out for an HDTV it would be another matter.

One thing I tried that did make a noticeable improvement was to use an
anti-glare/privacy fresnel lens on your monitor. This is basically a
magnifying glass for your monitor. I was able to borrow one (sadly
only for a few days) and thought it was very nice, but not enough to
justify the money to buy one for myself. These don't come cheap,
typically over $150, but maybe you can "borrow" one from somewhere. I
suspect you might also be able to buy just a lens and build the
enclosure yourself for less money. Somebody suggested using the lens
from an old overhead projector, I dont know if one of these would be
suitable or not.
