How much should I be squealing the tires in this type of racing? Is all the
way through turns ok, or just every now and then?

Excellent question.  And if you could (this knowledgeable respondent),
please also tell us if it is normal not to be able to lock up the brakes
even with your foot to the floor...

Thanks,

Marc

Quite normal if you've left the ABS setting too high. Failing that, it
might be a controller sensitivity issue.

My guess is squealing + no smoke = good, squealing + smoke = bad :)

The tyre heat/wear info screen may come in handy. You immediately see when
tires are becoming overheated from abuse...

No ABS, obviously!

Pardon me for trying to help! I just thought you may have left the
'Anti-Lock Brakes' setting on high.

Ever heard of a race driver going into the first turn with cold brakes and
not being able t stop?  That's the way these brakes work.  In GPL, if you're
doing 320km/h and hit the brakes on full, they don't don't lock-up
immediately despite having much less grippy tyres and miniscule downforce
compared to these GT cars.

I'm sorry I can't give a scientific explanation, but I can assure you that
these brakes perform true to their real life counterparts.

seems like that would have to be the aforementioned controller sensitivity.
After I turned off abs, it took me a while to figure out how to keep from
locking them up. I couldn't even go 1/4 down without locking them.

No offence meant--but I am an old hand here...no driving aids is a given :)

So are you saying that the cars constantly have cold brakes and they never
warm up, or are you saying that the friction force of the brake pads is not
enough to overcome the inertia of the spinning wheels at high speeds?

No, he's saying that the download generated by the aerodynamics is such the
brakes cannot provide enough force to lock the wheels at speed even if full
braking is applied (there is a limit to how hard the virtual driver can push
the pedal in the game). As speed decreases so does download (with the
square, actually) so you have to release the brake progressively as you slow
down to stop the wheels from locking. Also, as you start turning in, total
grip of the tyre is being shared between braking and cornering so you have
to "trail" out of the brake even further to prevent lock-up. Another
phenomenon which can be observed in the mod.

For best results in this area, IMO, the axis sensitivity for your pedals
must be set to 50% (linear) in the game.

I'm saying that even when they are at optimum temperature, they don't have
the friction force to instantly lock the wheels.  Not even the Porsches ; ).
As I say, it's the same in GPL - even those '67 cars with their huge brakes
can't lock the wheels instantly at very high speed.

Since steering is in combined-axis mode, setting 50% axis sensitivity
will make it linear.  But shouldn't linear for split-axis devices like
pedals be 0%?  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Right now I have 50% axis sens. for my steering and 0% for my brake
and gas (Act Labs Performance Pedals).

Trust me, you need 50% sensitivity for linear braking, throttle and
steering.  The X-axis appears to behave differently to the other axes.  If
you depress the pedals in the axis setup screen, you can prove to yourself
exactly what's going on.  With your throttle and brake set to 0%, you'd find
that
