GODDAMNIT. My DSL died during qualifying and that was the end of my day.
Couldnt get back in. This is BS, this goddamn DSL connection keeps crapping
out whenever there is any electrical irregularity.... (lightning, turning
off the ceiling fan, solar flares, etc etc)

That one's for Uwe.....   I tried to get him to close up the pace line on
several occations...  After having used autochat a billion times... I passed
him in an effort to get him to close up on the car infront....... Heck I
even tried to bumped him!

When pitting is part of the game it's essential that everyone keep a
"thight" pace-
field...  meaning a distance of around a second or so between you and the
car infront.

So for future races - please have incar chat turned on so everyone can see
"vital" information...

Oh I see... he does have a tendency to lag, which I too find annoying. Guess
he didn't see my "keep up Uwe" either then.

A second is a lot of distance at 90mph... I'd say 2 to 3 car lenghts max.

I thought this was a given in online Nascar racing.

That's two for Uwe actually. :-)

I had a black flag and lost a lap for passing grubbat on a restart (he was
entering pits slowly as everyone else was speeding off into the distance--no
big deal now I know what happened) so I had to work my a** off to get the
lap back. On lap 62, if you look at Eldred's replay, I'm repeatedly passing
Uwe under yellow before we go green trying to get him to close up, just like
Ed was advised to do earlier in the race. In turn three, he's still way
behing Mitch. I'm sure I was pissing him off but that wasn't my intention
and if chat was on he would of known that. On the restart, it seemed (I
don't know for sure) like he blocked me the whole length of the front
straight in return. I then was about two seconds back of the front four and
that basically ruined my comeback. Larry and I warping together during a
beautiful pass ended it for good.

If Uwe thought I was being an a** during the yellow, then I can understand
him blocking me, but that wasn't what I was doing. I had no way of telling
him to close up since his chat was off, and without a tight restart Larry
and I were going to be out of the running because we had Uwe and a couple of
other damaged lapped cars between us and the four leaders. I certainly have
no problem with you at all Uwe (just the opposite, you seem very nice on
RASCAR), if you are mad at me then it's simply a misunderstanding due to the
chat being off. :-)

BTW, I didn't meant to make it sound like I blame grubbat for my black flag.

On lap 29, we are about to go green and he dives down to approach the pits.
How long do I have to stay behind him?  All the way until he crosses the pit
entry line? What if his car broke down or he had a flat and stopped? The
entire field took off as the green flag dropped and I'm still waiting for
him to enter the pits. By the time he does the field was EIGHT seconds
ahead. You can't make that up without drafting help. I apparently didn't
wait long enough and got the flag because I couldn't see him anymore. If
he's entering the pits, shouldn't I be able to pass him just like you can
pass any driver on the outside before the s/f once the green drops on a
restart?

Dave;
You have to stay behind/beside him until he passes the pit wall and/or pit
entrance line.  Probably already are, but the F2 screen is key for this,
since you can't see sideways.

Though as slow entering as it sounds like he was, a black flag or waiting
probably wasn't much difference :(

Needless to say....  it was a very crappy time to make a pitstop if you ask
me...  not only did he ruin his own chances off a good result.... but he
would have ruined the chances of everyone who was behind him too..
What he should have done was take the green flag and then pit.

IMO.

Yes. From watching the races I have the impression Nascar officials are much
more lenient in this respect than the game, but it seems it's something
we'll have to adjust to.

If he stops and retires or tows you shouldn't get a penalty.

I'll have a look at the replay to see if I can explain it. If I understand
correctly if you are ahead as the green is given you will be judged as
having passed under yellow at that moment and not at s/f or pit entry. Don't
know if that's what happened, but it's a possibility.

Download from Eldred's server is exceptionally slow at the moment. Let me
get back to you...

Bingo... you were ahead when the green was waved and therefore, by
definition, had passed under yellow. Had you been behind Grubbat as the race
went green, I think you would have been allowed to floor it and take off
after the pack, provided you passed to the outside. Which is a given in this
situation.

What raced through my head at the time was the rule that let's you pass a
much slower car on the left before the s/f line on a restart without being
black flagged. I thought maybe there had to be the same kind of leeway for
the type of situation I was in. The field was just about out of sight it was
so far ahead, and I was on the right side after all.
Just seems like a ridiculous rule. I'm guessing it can't possibly be as
strictly enforced in real life as it is in the game. If a driver were to be
injured/sick or his car was breaking down, he could take others out of the
race completely if they had to wait for him to get into the pits on a
restart.

I understand that it may be hard to program a solution for my situation into
the game, but then again, they managed to program the situation of passing
very slow cars on the left on a restart as I mentioned above.
