Don't know what you are on about! Why don't you refer to my reply earlier (4
June) about how easily I backed up the European version of GPL?
Keep an eye on the thread!

copy GPL cd rom - HELP

Hmmm..... I'm from Europe, had I not installed the game crack, I would need
my CD to play GPL.... Okay Monday morning I get up to find my CD has been
eaten by my dog, I send to Sierra UK for another CD, lets say 2 days
postage.... ok, Sierra recieve my enquiry, and put it in a little tray
marked "To Do."  It sits there, for between 2 days, to a month, however long
Sierra see fit. Ok so now Sierra organise something, something needs to be
sent to stores, and sent back, then stores despatch my CD.....

Two days postage....

HOW LONG MUST I LIVE WITHOUT GPL???

Jeez man, give it up, if he ain't selling it, what the hell does it matter?
MY GOD!!! I know for one that living with no GPL is no fit life for a man.
Besides.... If he makes his own copy, Sierra won't need to spend the money
on the CD, hence - they make n3 *HINT HINT HINT - to papy*

Cheers!

Excuse me, but no license agreement can take away a right under law which is
protected (at least in the UK) to make one backup of any computer software,
which may only be installed on one machine at a time.

It would be helpful if they did this. A friend of mine could not get his
Colin McRae Rally to work after a while because of the CD scratches, and
Codemasters (the publisher) would NOT replace it even for a nominal
charge.

They told him to take it back to the retailer! Thats really going to
make him think twice about buying their games in future.

Incidently, the GPL copy protection is such that I cannot install it
either from the CD recorder on my main machine, nor from a CD drive on a
networked machine. This I need to do if my CD drive on my main machine
stops working (which it seems to do occasionally).

I can totally appreciate Sierra (and others, of course) wishing to protect
their considerable investment in preventing the unauthorised and illegal
distribution of software pirated from their products.

However, I cannot subscribe to a "Catch 22" situation being in place which
allows us to make a backup, and even install from it, but not play the game
with it!

I suppose that the only way around this is to "ghost" your game directory to
a Gold CD  as soon as you've installed it.  .  Okay...that saves the data
being lost if the dog chomps the CD but it still doesn't get around having
to insert the original in order to play the game.

Unless you've run a crack that does away with the need to insert the CD.

Which brings us back to where we started!! :o)

Re cd copy or no cd patch, I have a AMD K6-2 333 & it will not run F1RS it
just sits there, If I use the no cd patch it works ok, when I had a intel
cpu in the same motherboard it ran from the cd ok, why? I emailed both
UBISOFT & AMD no response as yet.  No other changes were made, I runs on my
P166mmx ok but not the AMD.

No, copying is NOT illegal.  Copying to give to someone ELSE is illegal.
There's a (slight) difference... :)

There is a form of copy protection that renders CD's uncopyable.

However, I have heard that Nero is capable of copying some discs that
ECDCD can't copy.

Might be worth it to download the demo and try it.

Watch out for the really cheap '50 or 100 on a spindle' CDR blanks.
Some of that stuff is getting pretty ***.

Personally, I think the new 1X2X4X6X8X TDK's are the cat's meow...

It's also handy to compile more than one game on one play CD.  Less CD's
to mess with.

I can put the original's back in the box up on the shelf and not have to
worry about them getting damaged...
