GPL replay data analyzer?

by Juha Kallioin » Tue, 16 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I was just wondering if anyone has tried to decode what the GPL replay
files include. If it contains more info than just the user inputs, it
could possibly be extracted and used to analyze the fast laps by
outputting the data to an ascii file for example and then be read
from there or better yet, if somekind of a data analyzer a'la F1RS or
GP2 could be coded to visually represent the data.

It would be nice to compare one of the fast laps to my not-so-fast
laps (1:09:23 is my best :( ) and see clearly how do the masters
do it :-)

Come to think of it, just to see the user inputs would be interesting,
but seeing all the wheel drift and revs etc would be very nice.

These papyrus sims have not had any data analyzers before and I surely
don't think one will be included for a sim representing this era.

It'd be nice, although not so realistic, to have some intermediate times
displayed on the track so you can better judge if you are doing fine or not.
Now it requires a friend with a stopwatch sitting nearby and those are not
always available :-)

Aaagh I can't wait for this sim to be released. I wish they'd tease us by
releasing another demo version with a different track.. Watkins Glen is
getting a wee bit old by now :-)

GPL replay data analyzer?

I forget who released it but there is a very excellent Telemetry program for
N2 and ICR2. It only remains to be seen if the author will work on one for
GPL also+ACE-

Thanks

I believe you're thinking of Mike Corrigan's "Edit Replay", maybe in
conjunction with Doug Reichley's excellent "Crew Chief". "Edit Replay"
can read out telemetry data from a replay file, "Crew Chief" allows
(among other things) to view and compare graphically different laps.

I'd love to see something like this for GPL. I know there wasn't much
telemetry done in '67, but unless we can have a crew chief who comes
up and says "Son, you're braking too early for turn four" (which
certainly existed in '67), I'll go for a telemetry program that tells
me the same.
