Looks like CART is indeed doing badly - no live coverage on the major
US networks, no live coverage in Australia, and, last but not least
important (at least for me), no live coverage in Europe either. For
some unknown reason, Eurosport only had a condensed broadcast the next
day. (They *say* it has something to do with covering live more
popular events, such as matches in the Spanish football league <sigh>,
but if that be the case, why do they broadcast old stuff while the
race is going on?)
And it was such a fascinating race! Isn't that Juan Montoya just
crazy? (BTW, the American pronunciation of his first name still
puzzles me. I always hear "One Montoya leads the race" and ask myself
"are there several Montoyas in the race?" :)
What does CART management do wrong? With such a great 'product', it
should be easy to find 'customers'. Look at F1 - the races are quite
boring unless Hakkinen or Schumacher has to come back from the end of
the field. And yet, it's immensely popular. The CART formula is so
much more entertaining: 'full course yellow' and a pretty even field
of cars keep the races interesting, there's a lot of overtaking, the
cars don't break as easily. Yet nobody seems to be interested. Why?
