MGPRS2: Rant

Firstly, I can't understand how this game has so many people who
champion it. I can't understand whether I have some controller setup
problems (it works in all my other sims OK) or whether the game is at
fault...

I can't accelerate with wheel-spin help off because the throttle is
on/off rather than gradual, causing me to spin my wheels at every turn.
The brakes feel sloppy, and then bite too strongly all of a sudden. The
steering feels horrible, and I'll be turning a corner when all of a
sudden it snaps into a canned spin for no apparent reason. And when you
combine all these with the pathetic physics, you get one piece of shit
game.

Bring on GP3...

The game is NOT at fault here!!!

Gear ratio's are way, way, way....... too low!!!   1st gear especially!

Gear ratios are set totally wrong!

<The steering feels horrible
You probably have steering ratio too high or too low..... wrong wing
settings...... steering sensitivity too high or too low.

spin for no apparent reason.
Too low wings..... too high steering ratio, too high steering sensitivity

of shit game.
The physics are great in my opinion, at least the most advnaced until now,
GP2 was fantastic but if you drove and 1994 car and a 1997 car and expected
no differnce then you obviosly need to learn something about the sport.

Well, its one thing I agree with you on!

One answer explanis all your questions!
You are not evn bothering to download or make a PROPER setup! or you are
just using some cheapo joystick or pad!

Come on man!  Get it together!

If the physics are so good then why do the cars behave weird when coming
to a rest after a spin? It's as if they have no momentum.

I have a TM Nascar Pro FYI, and I have tried downloading setups. I'll
try heightening the gear ratios on them and see what it feels like.

Cheers.

great ? wow the game engine is one of the most unrealistic I have ever seen.
Of course it's better than F1RS in it's physics engine, you actually feel
the car a little, but compared to any other sim on the market you feel
nothing.  The whole deal with the tyre slip angle is not fun.  Look at how
the cars act in F1 today, and try to compare just to the feeling you have
looking at a replay from in-car in MGPRS2.  Totally false.  It doesn't model
properly the 3d axis, the game engine can't really model any 3d elevation,
banking or camber.  The sound is weak, the menu interface is weak, not even
sound in the replay.  Game service is a farce, the AI is stupid and races in
an erratic way.  Graphics are cartoony, no FIA license. blah I can continue
for days you know :)

OF1R has a better sensation of modern Formula 1 than MGPRS2.

I agree totally.....  The game is lame...
I have set it up well, got good setups, and can race pretty quickly with it.
But the physics feel "dead"... the cars don't feel like the high powered
thoroughbreds they are supposed to represent. There is no momentum.
The AI is pretty stupid, and the experience just doesn't cut it with me.
The replay mode is a really sad attempt too....

I'm glad you said that, because you've just put into words the way I
feel about the _game_.

WELL, I PUT CONTROLLER 50%SENSITIVE AND "ANTI-SPIN" AND "ABS" OFF. THEN I
DONT SEE BIG DIFFERENT FOR GP2 WITH "STEERING HELP".  BUT THERE IS 1000%
MORE SETUP CHOICES IN mgpRS2, SO THAT IS *** SIMFANS MUST.
THRUSTMASTER SPRINT WHEEL WORK EXELLENT WITH RS2.

Two things:

1. if you have a wheel with pedals like the Logitech one (very good)
make sure to go into the controller setup and set it up for seperate
axis for the pedals.  When running MGPRS2 with a single axis I found
it impossible to get rid of wheelspin.  Using seperate axes fixed
this.

2. if you use anti-skid it prevents the car from doing small slides.
Once the car does slide there is no correcting it.  Playing without
the anti-skid option the car slides more easily but you have the
chance to correct it, before it gets out of controll.

enjoy yourself

Ok, lets have another try:

Well either the gravel or grass or something has slowed you down, or if you
are still ontrack, there is not alot of momentu, I'll give you that, but no
momentum is not correct in my view.

Heighten 1st gear into the high 20's, his IS a bug in RS2....... the gas is
too sensitive when the ratios are set too low with aids off....... also,
don't rop to 1st gear, only go as far as second, even ni F1 1st gear is only
for starting, just as in road cars!

Where in the real world can you change the spring rates by using
percentages.

This game is totally unrealistic. As far as I know it's driving model is
based on some fantasy driving game called POD.

So how anyone can say that it is like driving a real F1 car is beyond me.

It sounds a lot like the TOCA 2 demo to me...

Without question. UBI couldn't program their way out of a wet paper bag. But
that's why they keep releasing "new" games using the same totally faulty
***program they started with years ago. Most companies will reuse
something that's working. UBI reused the most buggy program ever released.
HA! What a joke!

You forgot to mention the 20 degree dead zone in the steering.

(For those of you about to crawl up my ass: It's a tough call between CPR
and UBICrap. But at least some things in CPR worked. And the physics and
driving thrill make it all worthwhile. Nothing in F1RS or MGPRS is good.)

Mark, your my idol :)

Finally after years of effort r.a.s. has turn on my side and understand how
Ubisoft is taking us so not seriously and laughs in our faces about their
supposed sims.  That remark when F1RS got released would had made you a
troll, but I kept my opinion and based them on facts (limitations of the
game engine and physics, etc..)

Btw, Montreal is very crappy in how Ubisoft models it.  It's a shame, the
company is about 20minutes from the track :)
