Anyone notice the "glitchy-ness" in the first corners of a GP? - even
during the first practice lap by myself,  there seems to be
intermittent disk access, which freezes the screen momentarily at

thanks

Brian, What sort of system are you running F1RS on, that may help in sorting
your problem.

Must admit, I get the same sort of thing happening to me.   I have tried all
sorts of different
config settings regarding graphics etc.   I always seem to not have complete
control of the
car, almost as if being hit from behind syndrome.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Do you have replays on? I'm not sure, if replays write directly to disk,
because
I turned replays off a long time ago, but it's worth a try.

A guess would be that textures are loading. Once loaded it's smooth. Quake is
similiar. First minute or 2 has pauses. This is because Quake is loading all
the textures for that level.

I see this *every* time on the first lap of the first circuit I run after
starting the program.  After that, I can run the following laps, or load any
other circuit, and not see the problem again (until I exit the program then
restart).  My workaround is to just be in-car of a computer-controlled car and
let a lap go by in practice (or whatever) mode before it is important.  In my
case, it is not due to the replay as I have that switched off.  Replay makes
it worse, and I suspect continual.

I have the UK version, the 1.08 patch, a 200MMX with a Canopus Pure3D.

Yes, that was my guess too.  But it only happens on the first track loaded.
So does that mean that the textures used on one track are the same as used on
all?

Is it just me or does it seem that my car doesn't seem to stick in the
corners quite as well during a race as it does by myself, time attack etc.?
It may be that I get pumped up in the actual race and overdrive it a little.
Maybe frame rate drops a little too making it a little harder to drive with
other cars to "draw".

I actually don't do full races anymore in F1RS on my P200 with Monster
3D,
because there is quite a difference in fps in hotlapping and race.

I probably got so used to the complete control you have over your car
when
alone on the track, that I can't tolerate the loss of fps in a race.

Hoping for a big price cut for PII CPUs and Voodoo2 cards... ;^)

drive with other cars to "draw".

You *usually* have more fuel on for an actual race, so the car is
heavier, more sluggish in handling, etc. Also people usually have a
slightly more conservative set-up for races, than they do for
qualifying/hotlapping/etc?

Also, as you say, the adrenalin gets pumping during a race, and it is
very easy to outbrake/outdrive yourself.

Frame rates dropping? depends on your set-up and the options you have
selected, But I think it's probably more of the former.

Have P166, with Monster 3DFX, I have done only the min install (no
disk space left..), and only 16MB memory.
Would it be the memory, or the install, or something else?
Thanks.

I have a 64 meg 233 MMX and Voodoo II card and get no drop in framerate
with a full field in front of me.

There are so many reasons for that: framerate is very subjective, what
looks
good to you, might be terrible for me. I will upgrade to a P233MMX next
week,
which could give just enough power to make it really smooth.

BTW, I still have to redo a test with patch V1.05, because I had a
feeling,
the framerate got worse with V1.08...
