F1RS first corner jerkorama - is Ubisoft addressing the problem?

I've had F1RS for a few days (christmas gift), and it's a wonderful,
wonderful simulator. I love the graphics, the AI and the feel of the car!

There's just the first corner jerkorama problem... On my computer it is
almost *impossible* to take the first corner after the race start, because
the system goes into infostress shock. It's not just the graphics that's
jerky - steering, gear changes, *everything* gets totally unpredictable.

I know that this problem has been reported before. I just want to know if
Ubisoft is addressing it. In my opinion, it's a *major* problem! I'm either
restricted to practice sessions or to turning off all the nice graphics,
which would be a pity, because after the first corner or two, the game works
great with everything turned on!

Someone suggested a parade lap. If that would solve the problem, then
great!! If it wouldn't, how about an option to tune the graphics down for
the start, and then automatically tune it up as the processor gets less
busy? (either way, I think a parade lap would be nice - gives you a chance
to scrub in the tyres)

My config; P133, 64M, 3Dfx

Turn off the replay option to improve the first corner speed.

Make sure the 'Poll with interrupts enabled' is checked for your controller
(improves predicibility of control input).

I did have the replay option turned off, but thanks a million for the
controller tip! I can now steer and change gears, which improves my chances
in the first corner considerably! ;-)

Are there more tricks to make the graphics less jerky? I've already
experimented with all the graphics settings, but did I hear someone talk
about Windows 95 cache settings?

There is a thread in this newsgroup called F1rs-Make my engine louder.
Read it it gives very good tips on how to fix the problem of first lap
slowdowns.

There are a few more things to do:

1)  Increase your virtual memory:  in Device Manager, find virtual
memory and force a minimum of 80M or so.  This helped me a lot.

2)  If you are running MS-Office, turn off the shortcut bar before you
start.

3)  Buy as much memory as you can afford!  (32M min, of course)

4)  Reduce the number of opponents, turn off replays, turn off car
detail, etc.

Good luck!
