Painting in N2 with PSP v4.1

Please excuse the ignorance of a newbie when it comes to painting.  I have
read, and followed (as closely as I can make out) instructions here for
using PSP and various palettes.  I have downloaded instructions and read
them, step-by-step, but I am STILL having difficulties.

My problem arises when I attempt to import another image (such as an
advertising decal or whatever)......there is no problem if I just export a
car image, go into PSP to paint it and then import it once I'm back in N2.

However, when attempting to use imported images to paste to the car
template in PSP, I am forever getting the "corrupted palette' message once
I try to reimport to N2.

Does anyone have any clear and easily-explained instructions for this
procedure.  I am using the Nascar2.pal palette that was downloaded from a
site (referred to in this NG), together with the instructions on that same
site.  Obviously I am missing out on something in my procedure.

Any help would be most welcome and would go a long way towards solving my
rapid hair loss! :-)

About the only thing I could think of is to "LOAD" the Nascar2.pal to
each image *BEFORE* you cut&paste stuff. That is how I got my picture
into the game.  I opened up the picture of myself & Loaded the Nascar2.pal
(which I got by saving the pallete from default.pcx in the \nascar2\car
directory). Then I cut my image out & pasted it to default.pcx. Then I
saved it as G_CISKO.PCX in the \nascar2\cars directory. It loaded with no
problem. I am sure it is the same idea with painting the cars.

BTW, download PSP 4.12 if you haven't already.
