How do you open *.car files in PSP 4.x? I'm sure there must be away to
do this, right? I haven't found it yet unfortunately. Has anybody
written a guide yet for painting cars in N2. (Aside from the manual of
course.)

If the r_craven.car file (Ricky Craven) is the one your exporting from,
then the exported PCX file will be called: xr_craven.pcx --It will NOT
be found in the CARS directory, but rather in the NASCAR2 directory.

And use the palette (available on some websites listed in this NG) for
N2 or you'll get strange colors and/or missing colors when you import
it back into N2's paint program.

Hi Ed,
Chris Frederick created a swell set of palettes for use with N2. They're
available on his web-site :

The *.car files contain all the information of the driver and car in
binary format. It is not a picture that can be loaded anywhere. You must
use the export function in the paint shop in the Nascar game. By doing
this you create a file called *.pcx, * being something like what the car
file is named like xm_hart. This one you can load in to PSP and edit.
Once you've finished that, and saved the new car with the same filename,
then you must go back to the Nascar paint shop and use the import function
to get in the new car picture, and then save it there which creates your
new *.car file with your new car. Note that before editing your *.pcx you
should back it up in case something goes nuts.
Hope this helps,
Matt
