Replace GPLRank with EldredRank

by cyrille vanlerbergh » Fri, 30 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Following a previous post by Ken Mac Kay refering to our venerable St Eldred
as a living benchmark, I wondered if we couldn't design a new GPL handicap
system: the EldredRank.
The EldredRank would be the Gplrank for the GPL layman.
Some of us cannot bother to spend hours to learn every inch of a track. We
prefer to dash around in wild leaps, like mad colts prancing from sandpits
to armcos, from armcos to grass strips, from grass strips to sandpits. Yes,
we slowpokes love to watch the scenery, and speed is not our only goal. Yes,
we are slow, but we slide off the track with *style*!

Enough rambling talk, let's get to practical issues.

The EldredRank would be computed with a very simple mathematic formula:

your EldredRank=(your GPLRank)-(Eldred's GPLRank)

This way, many more GPL drivers would be able to reach a negative handicap.
And more important, St Eldred would always have the glorious handicap of
0.0.
Maybe Uwe Schuerkamp (lead GPLRank director) could help us in this grand
project.

Cheers,
Cyrille Vanlerberghe

Hey, Eldred!

I remember back maybe a year ago when Alison released her "sweet red candy"
Ferrari set-ups, and I posted a message specifically recommeding them to
you.

You responded something like "Oh, great, now I'm finding my name in message
headers!" or some such.  How times have changed, sir!

Regards,

Kurt

What's next, an official Eldred fanclub?
LOL, great idea Cyrille! And good luck at the final, those damn
Italians are hard to beat when they constantly defend their goal with
all their players :)

Yes Andre, I would have LOVED a France-Holland finale!
The Italian don't play football, they play *lockball*...
I guess Zidane will have to kick the italians' butts...
Cyrille
PS: for our non european friends, Zidane is the french equivalent of Michael
Jordan for soccer...

Remember posting elsewhere about being the top of some heap, any heap? My
picture isn't next to any definition in the dictionary, but ... uhhhmmm...
how do I say this? Do I want my name associated in any way with a homage to
mediocrity?

I suppose it's not all bad. I like seeing my name in print, too. :-)

Michael.

Eldred , I wonder if the people in your home town realise what a world
famous star you are ? Just imagine , you could be walking down the High st
and people would whisper "that's him isn't it " , gorgeous 20 year old
blondes would want to jump into bed with you . The radio station and
newspaper would call you for an interview .

Enjoy the fame EP , this looks like being your year.
