Nascar and Matrox

by wade herme » Fri, 26 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I am new to Nascar Racing. Just purchased a matrox Millineum with 2 megs
of Ram..I have a pentium 166 with 16 megs of EDO ram. I am currently
playing with all the Graphics on and in SVGA mode. seems smooth as silk.
I was wondering if anyone out there has played on the Matrox version and
the regular off the shelf CD version with all graphics turned on with a
similar machine? Is there a noticable difference between the two? I was
also wondering is the Matrox version compatible with the network game
play...say at Hawaii? Am interested in racing real opponants but no
where experienced enough yet Would also like to find out info on where I
can find network play. Like how do I find this Hawaii network Im reading
about? Thanks for your replies if any.

Yes, both a friend and myself tried NASCAR with and without the Matrox
accelearated version.  It seems that you gain abot 10%-15% frame rate.
The Matrox version works fine with Hawaii (multi.exe) for both of us.
Hawaii can be downloaded via many sources, but try the sierra web
page if you can't find it elsewhere (www.sierra.com).  Good luck.

With my millenium, the matrox version gives better framerates, with a
166 you can expect all detail always on except in HEAVY traffic.

Hawaii uses multi.exe , not nascar.exe, so online you'll be using the
non-accellerated version. According to Papyrus, there are no plans to
add the specific 3d versions to nascar 1 , and they havnt decided if
they're doing anything with version 2 yet, and thats what the
"release" hawaii will use. It's understandable that they dont waste
time re-compiling for us "beta testers" :-)

wade,

Try going to http://www.thepits.com to get Hawaii.
