Matrox version of Nascar

by nobod » Tue, 07 May 1996 04:00:00

I am using the Matrox version of Nascar version 1.21 and I am having a bit of
a problem.

When I load any of the carsets that are floating around the internet I seem to
have problems in loading the garage.  If I use the carset that came with
nascar I have no problems.  I can use the carset for the race, but the garage
won't load.

I am able to import my car in the paintkit and still use the garage, providing
it is imported into the original carset.

I know the carsets are not corrupt as I have loaded them fine in the normal
non matrox version of nascar 1.2.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems?  If so how did you solve it?

Thanks in advance....

                                                Craig.

You are experiencing US vs. the Rest of the World conflicts.  In North
America 2 or 3 of the cars had different file names within the cars.dat
file and the NASCAR program.  I believe the Pits web site has a patch
program to fix this problem.  I am also including a quick and dirty fix.

To use carsets, which were created with the US Version of Nascar, with
the *** version you must do the following:

either make your *** version a US version by

changing all occurences of the ASCII sequence beng13 to kell_5
in the two files OBJS.DAT and your CARS94.DAT

or make the US carset a *** carset by

changing all occurences of the ASCII sequence kell_5 to beng13
  in that new <carset>.DAT file.

This is a version of Nascar Racing that Matrox packages with the card.
papyrus has coded it up to take advantage of the 3d enhancements provided
by the Matrox card.  It doesn't look any prettier, but it is MUCH
smoother, especially in the replays.  the version is 1.21-MX1 so it does
carry the 1.21 upgrade.

Hope that helps...

The Matrox version of Nascar has been optimised to support the Matrox
Millenium video card and is bundled on a CD which comes with the card.

I have a Pentium 166Mhz and I find that I can run with more detail in
Nascar than I can with Indycar 2 so I guess it does improve the frame
rate.
