Logi Profiler and WinVROC

by bertr » Tue, 25 Mar 2003 10:14:20

Ever since getting my Logi MOMO Force Wheel, I have had problems in
getting the Logi profiler and WinVROC to properly communicate.  The
problem is that the wheel feels drastically different in GPL online
races than it does when running offline.  Online, the forces feel a lot
looser, there's a significant deadzone in the wheel's travel, and the
car's weight/mass just feels much lighter.  Being in a weekly GPL
League, it's very frustrating to develop a set-up and practice all week
offline, and then have a completely different feel during the actual
race.

In the Profiler, I had been using a profile that I set up for VROC
WINVROC.exe file.  I've been told several times that it should be
pointing to the GPLLaunch file instead.  Unfortunately, I could never
change the setting for this profile and make it "stick".  (For some
reason the Profiler always reverted it back to the original setting.)  I
also couldn't set up a new profile pointing to GPLLaunch because I would
get an error message saying that a profile pointing to that executable
already existed (when it didn't).  So, I finally decided to wipe the
Profiler off of my hard drive and re-install it.

After doing that, I now have a VROC profile that points to GPLLaunch.
Unfortunately, when I start that profile I get a very quick flash of the
"Launching GPL" pop-up that you get when entering a race in VROC, and
then I'm still left in the Profiler.

Obviously, I either have the Profiler set-up wrong or there is a special
procedure that I'm not aware of to properly get into a VROC online race
thru the Logi profiler.

Can a GPL-er that uses the Logi profiler please enlighten me on this?
All I want is to have my wheel's "feel" be the same offline and online
in GPL.  Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated!

FWIW, I'm using Win98SE and Logi Profiler Version 4.20.

Thanks!
Bert

I've had the problem you describe. To get around it, ask your
league admin for the host IP and connect to your race from
GPL's multiplayer page.

I think you need to create a specific profile for VROC, and point it to
"GPLLaunch.exe" which is what VROC uses to join GPL.  Make sure it has all
the same settings as what you use in your GPL profile.  Then select that as
the active profile in the wingman profiler, and start VROC.  It works for me.
When VROC calls GPL, it should load the correct profile as well.

Thanks for your reply.  However, I've already done that and therein lies the
problem.  When launching the profile pointing to GPLLaunch.exe, all I get is a
quick "pop-up" of the "Launching GPL" message that you get when entering a race
from the VROC race menu.  Then nothing -- I'm back in the Profiler.

Maybe I'm dense, but isn't GPLLaunch supposed to send you directly into the GPL
Multiplayer screen?  If so, even if it worked correctly, how would I see the VROC
racelist, and enter a password, etc with such a profile?  I keep thinking that
I'm missing some obvious step.  Why does it work for some, but not for me?

Thanks.

You know, sometimes the easy answer is the best....  Although I'd rather not
have to go the route that you describe, that might be the only answer.   It
hadn't even crossed my mind.

Thanks!

Logi Profiler and WinVROC

<snip>

I am using the Wingman Profiler with no problems -- although I did
need to obtain the latest version from the Logi site. Version
4.something.

First, you create a profile for GPLLaunch.exe

Second, you need to set it to use the game profile when the game in
question is opened, not just when you open the game using the
Profiler.

Third, you need to open the Wingman Profiler, but NOT use it to open
any game. I just minimise it as soon as it opens. (This is after I
have made the first two changes.)

Finally, when you join a race in VROC, it will call GPLLaunch (which
in turn activates the game profile).

I can't recall the circumstance, but I set the Profiler option to
always use the GPL.exe profile as default in all games. Was there
some kind of problem that this fixed? I don't remember. But if you
find that your settings are not what you thought they should be, you
might try this as well.

Daryl,

Thanks for the reply.  My problem apparently has been that I was
launching VROC through the Profiler, when all I need to have is the
profiler being ACTIVE in the taskbar.

I understand what you mean in Steps 1 and 3, but I'm not clear on #2.  I
don't believe that there is anything special for #2, since I believe
that if the profiler is active in the taskbar, it will detect which game
has been started and send it the proper profile.

Thanks again,
Bert

Under the Options menu you will see a Global Profiler Settings menu
item. It will have three radio button options: Do not apply profile
to games, Apply profile to games, and Apply persistent profile
(regardless of which game is loaded). I set it to use the persistent
profile (which is set in a sub-option to be my GPL profile). I cannot
remember why I ended up with that option rather than the option to
apply the profile for the game which is being played. Perhaps because
the "game" is GPLLaunch.EXE and not GPL.EXE... I just can't remember.

Does that answer your question about point two?
