GPL - Odd Problem

Hi,
I have a strange problem with GPL.  I installed it on my newly built system
and the game runs as if it is always in accelerated mode.  I have owned the
game since day 1 and I have installed it countless times on my systems
without any problems like this.  This behavior is the same whether the game
is patched or not.  I uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results.  My
system is a P4 and I have 2 buddies with P4's and their machines run their
GPL fine.  No overclocking on my system.  Any hints?
