There is already an open-source sim project under way.  It's called the
RaceSim Project.

OK, after following the Linux stuff over the past couple of years (yeah, I'm
old), and now with a few more open-source projects coming popular - I want to
float a concert around....

Would an open-source sim project work?

At first I thought it'd be nuts, but the more I think about it, it could work.
There are several folks working on cars and tracks on their own time, several
graphic engines are available freely.  Is there enough of a coding community
with an interest in racing to make such a project work?

No, I'm not volunteering or anything, just wondering if I'm crazy for thinking
such a thing.

If something like that happend we probably could get the best sim possible
as there wouldn't be the rush to get it out on the market as soon as
possible.
There isn't exactly alot of good sims around with the exception of GPL and
GP2
so if the right guys from the Linux community got organized for something
like that
it could turn out to be a sim which never stopped getting better. When I
think about it
it should suit me very well :-)
