No 'Ring in GPL???????

by Image-inati » Mon, 06 Apr 1998 05:00:00

I was under the impression that it was worked out that the "RING"
would BE in the GPL when released.

I would like to know what tracks WILL be in it, now -------- perhaps I
got wrong info.

I have to admit I haven't been reading EVERY  SINGLE POSTING in theis
newsgroup, but the impression I got was that the hang up at one time
was the SPA-Francorchamps circuit ----- NOT 'RING'.

Would it be too much trouble for someone WHO DOES KNOW -----------
if they could list the tracks that will be in GPL?

ALSO ------ was I under the impression that you will be given a chance
to somehow run in a FORMULA 2  or even FORMULA 3 mode with less power
to the car, until you get used to it?  Just curious about that one.

Lastly ------------------

Will GPL be required to run in WINDOWS 95? or will we still
have a choice for running it in DOS mode if we wish?

I have a much better reacting computer and simulation with ALL
the racing sims if I run them in DOS MODE

     I am running a CYRIX 686 150+ chip (NON-MMX) but with a VIRGE 3
video board  get great results in high resolution play with everything
but GP2 which I have to run in low resolution -------- but it still
looks good enough and you can blast around monaco with everything
on!!!!!!!

No 'Ring in GPL???????

Well this is what I have heard from reading other posts:

+AD4-I was under the impression that it was worked out that the +ACI-RING+ACI-
+AD4-would BE in the GPL when released.

Papyrus is still working on the licensing for the +ACI-Ring+ACI-.

+AD4-I would like to know what tracks WILL be in it, now -------- perhaps I
+AD4-got wrong info.

Tracks that will be in at this time are Mexico, Watkins, Glen, Spa,
Zandervoot, Rouen, Mosport, and ??
I hope I got them all I could be wrong.

+AD4-I have to admit I haven't been reading EVERY  SINGLE POSTING in theis
+AD4-newsgroup, but the impression I got was that the hang up at one time
+AD4-was the SPA-Francorchamps circuit ----- NOT 'RING'.

See above :-)

+AD4-ALSO ------ was I under the impression that you will be given a chance

+AD4-to the car, until you get used to it?  Just curious about that one.

Yes there will be a G3 and a G2 cars. The G3 car is damn slow but it allows
you to  learn a track without spinning all over the place. The G2 is a nice
move in between the G3 and before you climb into the full blown Grand Prix
car+ACE- The grand Prix car can be a beast+ACEAIQ-

+AD4-Lastly ------------------
+AD4-
+AD4-        Will GPL be required to run in WINDOWS 95? or will we still
+AD4-have a choice for running it in DOS mode if we wish?

The last I heard Win 95 will be the only platform. I could be wrong though.

Thanks
John

Papyrus never told this.  They are still in licensing agreement with the
Nurburgrin autorities AFAIK.  They can't tell anything presently about how
the talking is.

Those are the official ones, but except in a near future a complete list of
tracks from Papyrus as from December 11th:

Kyalami
Mexico City
Monza
Mosport
Rouen
Spa-Francorchamps
Watkins Glen
Zandvoort

---> BTW, I heard from semi-official sources that the Nurburgring track IS
MODELLED, and they are only waiting for the license agreement to put it into
the title.

The curent drivers licensed are :

Chris Amon
Lorenzo Bandini
Jean-Pierre Beltoise
Joakim Bonnier
Jack Brabham
Jim Clark
Ritchie Ginther
Dan Gurney
Denis Hulme
Jacky Ickx
Chris Irwin
Jochen Rindt
Pedro Rodriquez
Jo Siffert

There is an option in the simulator who will let you run less HP powered
cars (a.k.a. F2/F3), to actually learn the tracks.  Oh and btw, it will have
his own car graphic and game engine, just a less powered and more easy car.
(In the first drafts of GP-L we would have had an actual street car to learn
the track).

All future Papyrus titles will be Windows95-only, mainly because of the new
game engine who is now completly different.

I'm sorry. Someday we will all have to agree that DOS is a past-thing when
we talk about racing games.

Your system is probably the minimum requirement (probably even under for a
good use of it) to play GP-Legends.   An upgrade would be a good choice,
since you can easily find a good Rendition V1100 card around 100$ these days
(even for a Voodoo-based card).

ONLY 1 DAY LEFT BEFORE THE REVOLUTION OF MAN-KIND !! *hehe lol*
