Indycar/Nascar; my G3 and RAM

I've finally got a machine that will do justice to Indycar and Nascar
Racing, but when I'm running one of them and I check "About this
computer," I discover they're eating 138 megs of RAM!  Luckily I've got
the room to handle it, but holy geez!

I'm running System 8.1 on my G3 266 mhz with 160 megs of RAM.  I set the
games to use 20 megs of RAM, but it doesn't seem to matter.

The games run beautifully, 45-55 frames per second with most of the
graphic detail turned on, and it's not like I'm gonna be doing a whole
lotta Photoshop work while I'm trying to stay off the wall at Michigan
Speedway, but does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
