Force RS belt mod

Force RS belt mod

by GTX_SlotCa » Thu, 01 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Since my news server hasn't downloaded any new message from here since last
night, I don't even know if this will post, but here goes. last night I
narrowed the top belt on the Force RS to reduce drag. It was very
successful. Tonight I narrowed the bottom belt. The result was a 2% decrease
in the amount of Default Spring needed to center the wheel from a full left
position. The brings the figure to 10% which is better than any of the other
wheels I'm testing. Now there is almost no drag or resistance in the wheel.
If you like the way the stock RS feels with it's 'built in damping', then
this mod is not for you. With the narrowed belts the wheel feels totally
different. A quick recap of the amount of Default Spring needed to center
the wheels from a full turn position are:
LWFF with cables lubed   30%
Ferrari stock   13%
Force RS stock (new) 27%
Force RS lubed   15%
Force RS top belt narrowed and lubed  12%
Force RS both belts narrowed and lubed 10%
Of  course, subtle FF effects and other things follow as you might expect.
If the belts  continue to hold up, and I see no reason why they shouldn't,
I'll write the article. In the meantime I'll continue testing it and
breaking all my old personal best times ;-)

Dammit Slot..

You are doing your best to convince me to start tinkering with my Force RS
arent you! <VBG>
Keep up the great work... I think your modifications are great for people
who like to tinker. =)

Force RS belt mod

Hey Scott,
You know, it's worth the effort. Here's the way I look at it. Lot's of guys
(like me) spend hours working on their game machine. Overclocking the cpu,
cooling, oc'ing the video and trying different drivers, you know the sort of
thing I mean. Then they play their favorite game with a wheel that doesn't
quite "fit" them right. All the other stuff is fine, but if you really want
to go faster and have more fun, tweak the wheel. Spend as much time on it as
you do the rest of the system.  And let's face it, the Force RS is just
begging to be tweaked. Ya, I know Act Labs built it to last 100 years and
with my mods it'll only last 50, but hey, I'll put up it and buy a new one
every 50 years or so. Did you know the damn thing has ball bearings all over
the place inside?

BTW, my recent camping trip and fooling around with the  RS belts (I
couldn't wait to try them) has slowed me down a little, but I should be
emailing you for some info by the beginning of the week.
