ACTLABS Force RS & RS Shifter.

Hi,

Yes, the pedals do support separate axis.  The pedals take a little getting
use to, but now that I am use to them I like them alot!  No, the FF does not
consume alot of CPU.  I cannot say its the lowest of the bunch because i
don't know, but I have not had any adverse effects on framerate with my
Celeron 450.

The Force RS comes with both a serial and USB connector built into it.  As
far as I know, there is no patch being worked on for GPL & N3, but there
could be.  However, even if you can't use the shifter in the standard "H"
method or gate,  you can still use the shifter as sequential (Up and down)
to shift gears.   Not as realistic but at least you can use it.

I highly suggest the ACT LABS Force RS as its my primary wheel <VBG>

Yes, the pedals do support seperate axis.

I have not noticed any cpu consumption, but I also have a P2-450.

Yes, It now comes with the USB engine (that's what they call it). The
cable is split between a USB and  standard joystick connector.

I also have the shifter which I think is well done. The shifter is a
bit cumbersome, I think because it's an add-on it makes it feel this
way.  You have another cable, and you have another cartridge (engine)
which plugs into the wheel and the USB engine plugs into the shifter
engine. As far as any patches I have not heard of a GPL patch but if
it could be done it would be awesome. To be able to skip gears on a
downshift would be a tremendous advantage.

Overall I have been very happy with the Force RS and I think with ACT
LABS commitment to upgradeability and expandability make it an
excellent value.

Yes it was me. My comments were based on a post by Randy Cassidy
(the person who patched GPL with FF for papyrus). He found that the
Logitech used 50,000 CPU cycles per FF event. The MS FF wheel
used 1,500,000 and the TM FF wheel used 3,000,000 per event. There
were no numbers that I remembered for the ACTLabs or other wheels.
My impression was that the ACTLabs wheel is as good as the Logitech.

Sports Car GT  has RS Shifter support with the SCGTV1.551 patch installed.

SCGT was the first sim to support the shifter, and is IMHO the most fun
racing sim/game you will find..  There are tons of beautifully painted cars
of many classes of racing available..  The new 1963 Lotus Cortina for
example, is an absolute gas to drive..

The RS Shifter sounds like a great upgrade..  Best regd's frm

Thank you, Thank you Thank you  <G>
I was wondering where my computer luck would wind up now that I have
to wait until I get a new job to buy things.
I am so glad that my field has passed to another. Maybe now I can buy
a Maxtor that will last more than two weeks, buy a NEW motherboard
that is not Replaced by the company on the way home, or need to buy
RAM on the day after it goes up 150%
Don't worry your luck should return to it's usual form in about 2-3
weeks (hopefully)
Just hole up and take a hit of salt

If you get a refund, try to get the Logitech FF. Mine has worked great
for many months :-)
