Force RS / RS Shifter Package, anyone from the UK ordered one?

by Hywe » Sun, 04 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hi

I`ve got the Logitech Wingman FF, and I`m thinking of selling it, to order a
Force RS..

Mainly for the shifter, that looks great!

Has anyone from the UK ordered one via the actlabs website?

If so, what was the service like, how long did it take to arrive, any
problems etc?

Cheers

I recieved mine a few days ago. Ordered it through the website on a saturday
night, got e-mails confirming the order, then notification of shipment,
recieved on Friday the next week, so not too bad there. Didn't have any need
to contact support, although the driverCD was cracked, I just downloaded the
driver software from the site.
The wheel itself is very nice, pleasant rim, strong FF, which can be fine
tuned if neccessary, and the desk clamps are excellent. My only beef is the
pedals: the brake has far too much resistance and not enough travel, but I'm
expecting it loosens after a few days.
One last thing. Cost. Shipping and Taxes pushed the total to over $200 (US),
and that was without the RS shifter. Ouch.

Yeah, the thing I was worried about was that maybe in a month or so
it might, I might find the wheel in retail stores.

Oh well, thanks for the info!

Have you ordered from here?  They are 60 cheaper than buying direct from
ACT Labs so I am certainly interested.  Anyone's experiences on delivery
time etc would be appreciated.

I did the same.  I figured, if things went pear shaped at least the credit
card insurance would cover things.

As a follow up to my post, I got my Force RS today, having
ordered it from SoftwareFirst last Monday.  Unfortunately I
can't tell you what the controller is like because they sent me
one with a European power supply which isn't much use in
England.  They say that their supplier is not available today to
chase up so they will let me know what is happening tomorrow.
To say I'm pissed off is an understatement.  I have this
wonderful looking wheel sitting beside me which I can't use.

BTW, I'm also waiting for the RS Shifter which I ordered at the
same time.  Still at 130.98 (~$200) it is still cheaper than
buying direct from ACT Labs at 182 ($281.99).

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Latest update - I had a call from the suppliers of Software
First.  They are sending me a UK power supply which I should get
tomorrow.

I'll keep you posted.

Today's update.

The suppliers of Software First, Dragonfly Interactive, sent me a travel
adapter to use with the European power supply.  This is not usable because
it does not convert 230V to 240V and is an unacceptable solution in my
opinion.

Because of this, I have sent a fax to Software First rejecting the wheel as
unusable and cancelling my order.  I expect their response tomorrow morning.
I have also contacted my local trading standards office as I believe it may
be illegal to supply an electrical appliance in the UK without a British
plug.  The law is complex on this and they are currently investigating it
and will get back to me.

As soon as I receive confirmation of my refund I will be placing an order
direct with Act Labs.  They may be more expensive but as their prompt reply
to another post I made shows, their customer service is enormously better
than that which I have received from Software First.

Others may have experienced good service from Software First.  I have not
and am simply relating my experiences so that others can have additional
information on which to base their purchasing decisions.

Cheers
