F1 2002??

Are they coming out with F1 2002, the follow up to F1 2001?
I'm just wondering, because I may want to go out and purchase the existing
game, or should I wait for the 2002 version?

thanks

F1-2002 is coming out mid-May.  The current version is pretty damn good, but
there are a number of worthwhile improvements on the way - at this point,
you may want to wait...

Het Briguy, can you give a brief list of what the improvements are? I
haven't heard anything and the preview at Gamespot UK was useless as far
giving info on features. Thanks!

Sure...

In-depth telemetry - Designed in conjunction with real world Formula One
experts, F1 2002 enables players to optimize vehicle setup, driving style
and general performance using detailed Telemetry data.

State of the art technology - Cutting edge graphics technology featuring
multi-texturing, new for 2002 dynamic weather effects including electric
storms, real word lighting, character animation for pit crews, your race
engineer and grid girls and live environment mapping compliment state of the
art 6D physics now including engine and brake temperature modelling.

Authentic 2002 driver controls & greater accessibility - Experience life in
the***pit with the same technological wizardry available to this seasons
Formula One racer including Launch Control, Traction Control and variable
level automated shifting. An all-new team themed user interface, enhanced
game controller support and Force Feedback effects make the racing
experience more immersive and accessible than ever before. "

That's about all I know for sure.  I have heard that there have been
numerous track adjustments, which will please a lot of folks.  Specifically,
Hungary, Eau Rouge at Spa, and element of Silverstone have been remodeled.
The texture work that I've seen in screenshots looks pretty awesome, and the
in-car sounds should be fantastic!

P.s.: No word about Internet capability, but this is a licensing issue, not
a technical one - I think they are restricted from doing so by the FIA.  I
would expect, however, that the AI abilities should be improved somewhat,
and that LAN network play should be better than it has been...

Thanks for the info! Are you the same guy who does the BAR hi-res textures?
If so, nice work :-)

I hope they address the replay system. I just want my saved replays to look
and run as smoothly as they do during a session! I really hate the current
replay viewer :-(

Wow! Someone still remembers?  Thanks, dude.  Yeah, Ralph Hummerich put out
a set of skins for the BAR a few months back that have a few more nice
little details, but I did the high-res stuff beforehand.  The textures look
great if your system can hack it...!

P.s.: And right back at ya about the replays - mine don't even work, right
now... :(
