NASCAR: Watkins Glen speeds?

What kind of speeds I should reach in Watkins Glen?  If I remember
correctly, the record is around 118 mph, but if I get really good lap,
I'll be in 100+ mph region.  Am I just really slow, or is the track in
Nascar Racing slower than in reality?

Can't help you there, but...one really good thing about the Watkins Glen
simulation is that Papyrus has included a provision for trailing throttle
oversteer.  This is what happens when you lift off the throttle while
cornering.  It basically transfers car weight from rear to front, thus
lightening the rearend and resulting in the rearend spinning around on you.
Anybody who's done a turn on a real roadcourse would know *exactly* what
this means and how disconcerting it can be.  Kudos to Papyrus for including
this effect in the game...

I find it also somewhat disturbing, that the AI cars just go flying
around, and I find myself scraping the paint off my FM2000-Ford's sides
at Watkins Glen. Am I too greedy or why? It feels like I'd need lots of
more downforce, but I'm running on full "wings" already. With a joystick
I once did something like 111Mph, but I must admit, that the "bus-stop"
chicane was pretty hard to handle at speed of 100Mph. I ran right through
the grass part of it and only merely avoided hitting the wall at the end
of the left-turning-part of the chicane. But 111Mph is the best I've ever
got. Any reasonably good setups?

Using an unmodified Fast setup, I've clocked a 116.3xx lap at Watkins Glen.
In a race, most of my laps are in the 110-114 range, even in traffic.
(I usually run with 38 opponents at 95-98%)

I have a 486DX4-100 and have found that running in VGA mode is worth about
2 mph over running in SVGA mode.

Same here... I have problems at Watkins Glen and Phoenix for some reason.
Every other place I do pretty good.
