CART Racing 2; Papy, the time has come!

by don hodgdo » Sun, 02 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Last night I loaded up CART Racing, just on a lark really, I didn't think it
could hold much interest after all the great sims that have been released
since ICR2 was first released. Well I was very pleasantly surprised, except
for the lack of force feedback, it was still great fun. Rather like visiting
with an old friend<g>, though after spending so much time with GPL the last
couple of years, I found I was braking and turning in waayyyyy too early!

I just can't believe that an updated CART Racing from Papy would not sell.
The competition is fierce, with a good mix of oval, road and street circuits
and international interest. What's the holdup Papy?

Listen. Papyrus can't even get their latest Nascar game into stores.
You think they are going to get funding for a CART sim?  Ho ho ha ha.
As much as I would like to see it, I sure don't see it happening.
We've got to hope for more folks like the West brothers who have a
love of the sport and the talent to make it happen.

Hee hee...!

Ok seriously...  The Papyrus Design Group Inc. simply doesn't have the tools
in my humble opinion to create non-Stock-car based simulation anymore in a
serious way.  Their current production seems to be 1 title each year, with
the possibility of a re-packaging each year also.  With all the Stockcar
titles they do, a major group of the company only does work for those type
of racing games.  With them milking more and more money out of the old game
engine, they probably don't need the same type of staff as before.  Artist,
2d and 3d designers are mostly a good portion of what you need.

They just don't care anymore.  But you know... they are loosing the boat.
Companies don't even want to stock their poor CTS expansion pack (6tracks
for 20$ geeze).  Maybe they will listen and STOP doing Nascar-based titles?
Who knows, let's hope so.  Do they expect to do Nascar titles until 2010?
<g>

The last 9 out of 10 titles by them have been Nascar ones.

Rendition support? why not D3D and optionally Glide. I can't believe the
people in this group that think rendition is still an industry standard for
3D, I haven't seen a rendition game since GPL, which really caught the tail
end of its use.  I actually haven't seen many Rendition games other than the
ones papy put out.

Get a new card.

The PEOPLE in this group DON"T think Rendition support is still a
desired feature.  But Trukster hasn't changed his want list for a couple
of years and his persistance at sticking to it has deminished whatever
else he's asking for.  You might just as well ask for a fully animated
crowd so we can watch from the pits as each and every seat is filled.
Several of the features on the list are very good, but by prefacing his
list with the absurd, he just gets overlooked by most of us here.

because nascar is going to take over the world, sierra knows that and knows
it will sell, cart is not as popular in the biggest market place (the USA),
so it's getting screwed.

as I indicated to Dave in an e-mail, I'd like to point out that when I said
"the  people in this group..." I wasn't making a generalization that I think
everyone or a majority think this and that it's stupid, but that I am amazed
by the select people in this group who think that rendition should still be
supported first and foremost over any other 3D rendering system.
