While I have to agree with you about the negative commentary re: CPR, I'm
just as guilty as the next guy, I think some of the blame can be placed on
MS.
CPR, IMHO, should not have been shipped as is. If you compare CPR to ICR2,
CPR really does look much more like an arcade game than a true simulation.
I'm not referring to the actual graphics, which are outstanding, as much as
the overall "feel" of the product. Obviously, the garage settings are far
superior to ICR2. But if you were to stand back and compare the 2 products,
ICR2 comes out way ahead. The AI issue, for one, is inexcusable. There is no
way that designers/testers could have accepted the level of realism the AI
presents.
I was initially very impressed with the level of participation in this NG
from MS/TRI (What was the guy's name that posted so often from the CPR
team?). However, like you said Jim, the level of immature and unproductive
criticisms must have scared them off. I think CPR has the framework to be a
great game, but with the advent of G.O.D., they may have scrapped the
project altogether. By the way, what is the definitive stance on that?
An incomplete product released to one of the most demanding groups of
enthusiasts is a recipe for disaster. I hope that CPR will get a new lease
on life in V. 2.0 if there will ever be such a thing.
