I believe also that Pedro Martinez was the *** pitcher this season,
also. The whole point about "my country has better athletes than you" is
quite boring and almost xenophobic. Every human being on planet Earth has
the same chances as others, and if they have the willing and determination
they will beat their goal. It doesn't care whatever your from the US or
Zaire, you are the same human being. To each their domination, I doubt I
have seen one American or one European won anything in long-run marathons,
but I have not said that every American is a bad runner. Okay Im quite a
little utopian, I know :)

"People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise
how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world."
: I believe McGwire beat Sosa in the homerun race.
But that's like saying a driver is the best because he has the most pole
positions, regardless of whether or not he wins :)
Besides, McGwire was...er... "enhanced".

Check your stats before you dive too deeply into the muddy world of track
and field, even long distance events. Not to detract from the main point
of your post, though.

Well, my memory is vague on the issue and this occurred while I was just a
pre*** racing fan.... BUT I do recall that when CART was formed it was a
break from the European controlling bodies. Much of the friction was over
INDY if my memory serves. There has been friction between the two ever
since. Old man Kennewell may be able to back me up here. Things seem to be
rather less heated nowadays but the older CART team owners and many of the
drivers from the 80's probably still view FIA in a way not dissimilar to how
Netscape views Microsoft. Likewise, I suspect CART is still a sort of
outlaw league in the eyes of FIA officials.

"The point is, people who are threatened by jokes are the same people who
tend to refer to actors on soap operas by their character's name. Listen,
there's the 'joke world' and there's the 'real world'. The 'joke world' can
get tough. Wear a cup." -- Dennis Miller
Not entirely true. Gerry Forsythe has taken a stake in Rockingham
prompting many to assume that it is pre-empting the arrival of CART in
the UK. As for Germany, that is more likely to happen if only because
Ford and Merc will want to get some Euro benefit from their engine
programs.
As for Havas asking Papyrus or anyone else to make a game, I think they'd
be more likely to wait for the first race to have happened to gauge the
popularity.

Autodromo?
Monza?
CART on the old steeply banked oval at Monza, that would be news!
AFAIR, during the Laguna Seca race, the announcer said that a CART
team owner was in Monza watching the F1 GP, and nobody really knew
why.

The CART owner at the Italian GP was Roger Penske and he was visiting after
receiving a begging letter from Zanardi pleading to be rescued from F1.
True.........honestly. Cross my heart.
