Just tried my first on-line race yesterday, had a "non online-version" of
the game for some time, but went out and bought it.
First off I must say it absolutely rocks. No one should cheat themselves
for the experience of a good race. Normally I would think that only
americans would find it amusing to go around in circles for hours, but the
traffic-management is really intense and more up close than the open wheel
racing on VROC. Maybe because here a little contact won't ruin you. But...
I must say that the attitude of many racers sucks bigtime. Never have I
heard so much ***ing about crashing than here. Because things are so close
wrecks can't be avoided, but it seems like theres always somebody, who
thinks he is the next racing icon and he was wrecked, not because he
couldn't hold hes line and control hes brakes, but because the front runner
by pure evil jumped his hood, cousing them both to wreck.
Instead of getting the damage repaired and getting back into the race he
nows sits mid-lane on Talledega yelling obscenities at everybody whos still
racing. Get a Life.

But all that aside I am going online again. Finishing in the first half
everytime (second once) on my first day really promotes interest.
By the way if "Major G" (I think that was the name) reads this, please
accept my apology for crashing you. But getting taken on the last few meters
was more than i could take. Then again I had no clue of just how slow i was
going with my overheated engine and how pretty damn fast you were clossing
in. Sorry.

See you on the tracks (do it have to be Talledega everytime)

Tallagega or "dega" as the wide open aces call it, is a track i RARELY visit
anymore for such reasons..Try a good 1 mile flat track, especially one
occupied by a well respected server...A few leagues will often let a few
outsiders in for practice races as an attempt to feel out new members and
the likewise..Dont let one bad "dega" turn your back to some excellent
racing !

I know what you mean Bertel, but that in the way it normally is in the WON
arenas. It is sad and childish. There are a lot of good guys and great
racers on there though. It just takes time to weed through all the BS to
find a good race.

lol, its no problem.  Part of learning to drive is learning to avoid the
wrecks.  Alot of times I have won at Talladega by starting last, wait until
everyone wrecks and win... No kidding!  Then people are like good win man
lol Im like drive better lol

LOL

Yeah, I've become pretty adept at accident avoidance after racing on WON. I
actually had a great experience at Talladega once, though. There were only 5
people, and there were only 25 or so laps, but the people actually seemed to
know how to race. There was a caution with 7 or so laps left, and the people
actually lined up properly, and when I went to pass the leader with 2 1/2
laps to go, heactually held his line and didn't wreck me. Of course, that
was my first win, so I'm probably a bit biased in its favor. ;)

The can indeed be avoided if you are patient. My experiece has show
me that many people are impatient, wreck and cry like babies.

When I host races I always have 8 humans in a 30 car field. Yes
people have to drive around the computer cars but big whoop...
I also have the damage and yellows turned off. This is supposed
to be fun not some bigtime racing sunday thing. So I figured that
your penalty for wrecking is trying to get back on the track. That way
people always have a chance.

What I have found though is that the warping is horrendious if the
host is not a high speed cable or DSL user. If the host is 56k you
can pretty much forget it even if you have cable or DSL.

On top of that you have all of the different human personalities
to deal with. I have had some cussing in the races, but for the
most part the people getting yelled at deserved it. One guy
was driving backwards and intentionaly causing wrecks. Most
cry babies will simply escape out and quit (like the losers that
they are) if they wreck. I would *NEVER* do this while hosting
a race. Quite a number will stick it out no matter what, and those
guys are cool. They are usually good drivers too.

IMHO the online portion of N3 would be greatly enhanced if the host
were given the option to kick out the trouble makers in the race.
But that would probably bring up a new set of problems...

In the end I think it is best to figure out how to deal with the
situation as is. Also you could do a password protected
race and only let in known people. But this is a very huge
hassle and would most likely severly limit the humans in
your races.

I have to agree with this post.  I have raced AI in Nascar 2 and 3 and
for the first time two weeks ago raced online.  It is a kick in the
pants.  I too started out by falling back and/or intentionally moving
out of the way at the start and I typically end up in the top ten.
Keep your nose clean, avaoid wrecks and enjoy.  Truck races I have
found to be very enjoyable.  Raced a two truck, 25 lap race with a
fellow (I assume) named Speedy38 yesterday.  Didn't lead a lap, tried
to work on drafting skills, but it was very enjoyable.  I'll take a
clean, two car race over a crash-filled melee any time.  Good pick-up
races are very hard to find when you start out online (and have a two
year old, a wife, house and a job!).

Keep trying, remember who the people were that raced you clean and
make a note to look for them in future races.  It's not a guarantee
that the race will be crash free of free from flaming, but your odds
of a good race will improve.

Well I have had a quite a good few races, it just struck me how hostile
people become when they wreck. well go to the pits, get repairs and get on
in. The fellow who crashed into you is likely to be damaged too, and you
might even win a placement or two (love f1-games as well - a good
pitstopstrategy is always nice to have) But stop telling people how stupid
they are. If the y really are that stupi, the won't understand what you are
talking about - If not it just reflects badly on yourself. Bottomline stop
complaining about trivial matters. Nobody is listening.

My two cents - and now back to the racing.
See you there

Why would this surprise you? Real rece drivers routinely get very
outraged at the other drivers. This "simulation" is not different.

That is why I have the damage off. Your penalty is spinning out and
tangling with others.

Apparently you were and are listening :-)

Err, you can already do this by holding down the ALT key and then clicking
the drivers name.  We've only ever had cause to eject someone once before
for intentionally taking out half the field and then telling us who his next
target was!

It's kinda sad...whereas the attitude in VROC is GREAT, the attidute in WON
sucks...it's obvious when you first go in, in VROC, most everyone uses
either their real name or at least their first name...but on WON it's
eArnHaRdT_rUlEz_049 or something of the sort.  My guess is that since N3 is
such an easy game compared to GPL, any 12 year old chump can get on and play
it and act 12 years old on the net, having no respect for others or actual
racing.  However, few 12 year olds have even heard of GPL, and most of the
ones who have can't drive it for beans, hence they never even bother looking
up internet play.  So the poor commercial success of GPL is kinda a blessing
for us...

Well, we almost had a thread without someone bringing up GPL. Maybe
someday.

Wow I never knew about this key. I will print this out and save it.
Thanks :-)

Well I was about to mention VROC, which I love because its a strait to the
race forum, with people mostly aware of what they are doing. Some messing up
the, myselv included cause GPL is just so damn difficult. I just thing the
N3 on-line *** which comes "strait from the box" and is working rather
well is a great initiative and you don't see that mentioned quite that
often. I only found out with the latest patch and rushed out and bought the
game, so I too can run around in cirkles with all the "southern gentlemen"
:-)
