Who has time for that? I want to get online and race!

Hopefully I can in another month.

Good I haven't seen you yet online on WON (well I'm quite bored by N3 these
days but still take some time to race a league and pickups).

There is plenty of nice stuff they included in the patches that are written
in the readme's.

I tried WON last saturday for the first time. It was quite an interesting
experience.

I have heard that newbies are treated with contempt and that only those with
a "reputation" get into the good races. People in chat seemed rather
unresponsive to my efforts but not to be put off I went to seek out some
action.  This closed shop that I have heard about seemed to be reinforced by
the number of passworded races. I clicked on about 10 races before actually
finding one open to all.

I'm glad to report that I did reasonably well for a newbie with no setups
(using ace) and visiting tracks for the first time. On one short oval (I
forget which one) I managed to finish a fighting third after a fantastic
s***with another driver, lasting about 15 laps. He was faster than me but
liked scraping along the walls more than was healthy for him and the car <G>
In a 45 lap Dega race, I qualified a lowly 23rd out of 29 but within a
second of the poleman. A ***y awful start saw me shunted into the wall and
I lost 2 laps in the pits whist repairs were effected. It was quite lonely
after that. The thing that amazed me was that I managed to haul myself right
back to ninth at the finish without ever passing one car on the track
proper. People seemed not to be able to hold lines or keep it on track for
more than 3 laps in a row. After moving to the inside to let the drafting
lead bunch pass, I was complimented on my manners at the end. Thanks guys. I
won't be such a nice guy when I'm on the pace.

You should of moved to the high side since I think most people run the low
line.

Jesus, what does a guy have to do to please all the people all the time ?
Was you there?

I did what was appropriate at the time.

My mirrors clearly showed the train on the high side as they exited a turn.
since I was considerably slower as a result of running alone and out the
draft I moved off the line that they had asumed so as not to impede their
progress.

Of course, all rookies are expected to be an expert on their first night
aint they? Probably why I saw so many being flamed I guess.

no

If they were high all through the turn and coming off then I can't see why you
got flammed.

The thing with WON is simple.  Within the poor racing you'll find a gem that
will make you smile for the rest of the day.  Had one last week. Disastrous
league race, yet I raced an invite-type race (it's a mixture between a
league and a pickup race, passworded race for gentlemens who want quality
race without all those wreckers) where I finished second with a great fight
for the leader almost all race long (50% Brickyard race).

The problem is that for 1 good newbie there is half a dozen kids and
wreckers on WON (the ration on TEN was less but still apparent).  So indeed
newbies are treated in a very harsh way.  Many people think that if those
newbies are indeed good drivers, they will raise easily and learn fast.

The community is still*** up from the NROS disaster, so many veterans
and quality drivers have hidden themselves in the hundreds of leagues that
are hosten on WON.  To help, ALPHA is the arena with pickups, and you will
find pickups in the ECHO arena normally around 8-9pm EST.

Hehe good story ;)

Btw you'll be surprised how fast ACE is.  Many people (including me!) use
ACE only and I'm easily able to keep the leader pace (or lead myself) in a
good majority of races.

Thanks Frank. I'll keep my eye out in Apha. Maybe you could put a word in
for me with the passworded invite races if you see me online ;-) I ntend to
be around most weekends now and have joined a European league.
