Connection Problems with N4

Connection Problems with N4

Any help is appreciated in this, I just do not understand it

I have been dealing with this for 9 months and if you could and I still am
not any closer to figuring this out.

I have been having connection problems with N4 since the very beginning.  In
every single N4 race everyone always said I was warping.

Yet I am on a cable connection and in N3 I have absolutely ZERO problems.  I
can connect to a server in N3 and sit there with 100% quality and no dropped
packets for a full 50% race.

However in N4 I am nothing but warp, even on great servers.

Tonight I tried to use Jeff's server (frogdog1) and I had nothing but
problems.  I could connect for about 30 secs to 2 minutes and then it would
kick me off.  Yet once again, N3 works fine as do other internet games.

Here is what it is doing that is really wierd.  Once the server kicked me
out, my internet in general would not work for about 30 secs to a minute. It
is like something was causing my internet connection to search for something
and it gets stuck until it finally times out.

After about 30secs to a minute, my internet would start going again but as
soon as I got on N4 the server the same thing would happen.

I stayed off of the server and downloaded something and surfed and my
internet had zero problems, but once again as soon as I get on the N4 server
it kills my internet connection and I have to wait for it to start working
again.

Ideas and help would be Greatly appreciated

Do you have any kind of FPS (framerate) problems in N4?

Other than that... some system specs would probably help :-)

You know what I think?  I think your ISP is limiting your throughput.
Somehow you've been tagged as a heavy user and they have placed a limit on
your account.  When the amount of packets starts exceeding the pre-set
limit...you get throttled back.
Can I prove this?  Do I have any documentation?  nope.  just a dirty
feeling.

I would agree with you except for the fact that I can sit there and download
at 200k/sec for any length of time using WinMX or on a FTP site.

My system is more than capable of running N4.

1.3 ghz, 256meg RAM, Geforce2 64meg Pro

Cable Modem connection

Just makes no sense, I do not have this problem with any other game or any
other internet application.

Hey Cliff,

To test this theory, you should try to run both a download and an upload at
the same time.  Pulling stuff down from somewhere else would be normal
traffic.  But if the ISP sees you sending a steady stream out, they may
think you are running a web-site or something and visitors are pulling stuff
down from your site.  Running a web-site is normally a violation of the
typical home-users usage agreement.  So they throttle you back.  Same would
be true for N4 where they start seeing a lot of up and down traffic.  The
biggest problem with this theory is that N3 (or any of your other on-line
games) don't trigger the same thing even though they should appear the same.

Are you saying that running an online game looks the same(to the ISP) as
running an FTP server???  If that's the case, how could you convince the ISP
that you're NOT running such a server?
