Sound stutters in MOBIL 1 RALLY

I am having a problem with the sound effects and music stuttering and cutting
in and out every few seconds with Mobil 1 rally championship. The demo version
ran fine some months ago. I have expanded my Cdrom cache as directed in the
readme text file. Other games run fine.  I have a soundblaster PCI128. Any
ideas ?
