Duke Nukem : Racing Legends? LOL it kinda goes along with my fantasy of
having a first-person shooter in some sort of racing world. Carmageddon
pushed to the extreme, but on a racing track! I'm sure EA must have had
some plans about such a game for their NASCAR license <G>

Umm... I thought they left all of the WSC code behind, and started
from scratch with RL? So they haven't really worked on RL for 3
years...
BTW, LFS team worked on LFS for over a year before publishing the
demo.
I'd like to see RL finished, but when looking at the West website...
well, seems like they'll have their hands full if they're gonna
include all those features...

What on EARTH are you talking about?
Doug
Dan,
I find this comment a bit funny. Blame it on Empire, the big bad profit
hungry corporation. History and common sense tells us that a specialized
*** product (that WSC purported to be) is an unlikely commercial
success. Are we to believe Empire misrepresented their intentions to *dumb
down* the game for mainstream consumption in order to "trick" the West Bros.
to sign on with them as distributor? I certainly have no inside info but
common sense would indicate that the West's needed Empire far more than
Empire needed the West's.
A likely scenario is that the West Bros. desperately needed a distributor
with some development $CASH$ to keep WSC alive (after losing their first
distributor - I cannot remember the details). I also suspect it was the
West Bros. who induced Empire by offering to dumb down the game to make it
more marketable. Finally, I suspect that the West's realized they were
"selling out" somewhere along the way (by compromising their "vision") and
refused to finish the game for Empire thus leading to their split.
BTW, I'm rooting for these guys and have been optimistic and favorable
towards them until now. I now wish they would stop talking about the game
and just get a demo out ASAP. Lot's of flash so far with no substance. The
time spent on that website could have been better utilized.
I also find the merchandising angle amateurish. If they think selling
trinkets will raise enough capital to hire programmers and buy new
equipment, I have less faith then ever that RL will see the light of day.
This falls well short of investment banking 101 for capital investment
ideas. ;0) It seems that they lack a very important quality: business
sense. All the programming talent in the world will not overcome that
deficiency.
