What rumors would they be?  I'd be curious to hear about rumors that got
started, and have come up false.

So what you are saying is, instead of focusing their efforts on RL, they are
going to start up a makeshift storfront and sell stuff for vaporware?  Well,
I'll give em credit on that, I don't think any company has sold merchandise
for something that isn't even close to being a reality.  But onto my point,
they've spent years producing this thing, yet they have not one thing to
show for it (pictures do no count).  Now they are going to start another
venture of operating a retail store selling knick-knacks, making pennies on
the dollars.

The reason they said what they said, is because the WB supporters are
getting worried, and need a little pasification from them to make em feel
better.

Absolute agreement here Jon T, you said it!

and friggin' TEDDY BEARS ??!! For the love of sweet Jesus in heaven, what
the HELL possessed those two to put up TEDDY BEARS ??!! Caps, tee-shirts,
that wouldn't have been such a big deal. But TEDDY BEARS ??!! I mean c'mon,
what the ***?

Didn't even have time to get my jaw off the floor before I started reading
posts here and at the RL forums saying "Oh, sure, I'll buy one... anything
to help usher Racing Legends along....".

I absolutely cannot believe they are that out of touch with their market. I
haven't owned or wanted a ***ing TEDDY BEAR since I was five  goddammed
years old, and I am not about to get conned into buying one now. I may have
made an occasional wisecrack about the *** Westie's every now and then,
but I'll admit I hoped something would come of it the sim. Now I am not sure
I would want something from minds as depraved as this to ever be released
upon the public. IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR A GROWN MAN TO OWN A TEDDY BEAR.
PERIOD. YOU SHOULD NOT MARKET TEDDY BEARS TO THEM.

Will this teddy bear come complete with his own little personal ID in a
little leather case ? Or will that cost extra ? How bout a little set of
*** teddy lips so teddy can blow me ? Can I ask that here, or should I
ask in rec.collecting.teddy-bears ?

I would say "Boycott Racing Legends!!", but it appears that would be a moot
point. I would say "Boycott Racing Legends Teddy Bears!!", but only the most
idiotic of fools would buy one in the first place, and besides, they never
listen.

[snip]

You need to get way above 3 developers for the administrative overhead
to be an unavoidable problem, so I wouldn't agree this is an advantage
for a 3 developer company compared to a properly managed company with
dozens of developers.

Waiting weeks to get approvals sounds more like a company with hundreds
of developers doing probjects with strict requirements on release
schedules, testing, documentation etc.

All I am saying is that the LFS guys have done a pretty good job of the Beta
that they have released, and they only have 3 guys. Some guys posts that it
doesn't work on his wheel, or that it would be good to be able to kick
wreckers from the server, and a few days later.....BANG....fixed with a
patch.
So why would it be so unlikely that the Wests will ever get at least to Beta
stage using only 2 guys?

So the Wests never promised a release date for WSC? Or a demo? Why are
you defending these guys who have been "working" on something for 3
years and haven't got ANYTHING to show for it?

Aah, you haven't met sweet Tux yet in his plush incarnation. I
have one and stroke it daily... Well, almost daily, and he's
looking out of my window at passers-by right now.

It's good to preserve a bit of the child in oneself, you know.
I like the teddy, but I think I'll jump for a cap and buy the
teddy later ;-)

It may get finished, but I have to say that the
Microsoft-licensing-per-piece-upgrade scheme they have will bankrupt them if
they open for business. People *** about $50 a year for the current stream
of sims, and I don't see a sim being priced more, costing for addons is
going to make it any easier on them. The masses complain that the current
sims aren't open source and can't be added to by the public. Trying to
actually sell add-ons will not work for racing sims (track convertors aside,
although it is much cheaper than the things slated for RL IIRC).

They are pricing this like it is a global corporate must-have software
package (Cytrix & SQLServer come to mind) and in reality, they'll be lucky
to sell 500 copies. If it materializes, they'll never generate enough
revenue to support it *properly*.

Foveon had an idea like this a few years ago with some imaging hardware
(Silicon Film) and it has seen as much of light of day as RL will I'm
afraid.

Mike,

The problem is that the West's have been yapping for years now and
haven't shown one piece of working code.  All talk about revised
physics, etc, etc.  They have shown some beautiful renderings of cars
and some on track screen shots but that's it.  I find the whole thing
laughable now. Teddy bears for sale??? Jesus.  They are approaching
Duke Nukem Forever status.  I will buy the sim if it ever sees the
light of day but I won't fund something that hasn't even shown an
alpha code base to exist.

The Live for Speed folks have done the right thing IMHO.  Low profile,
no BS and then produce an alpha test product for the WORLD to see. Now
those guys are doing something.

Until then,  GPL.

Amen to that  ! They are showing the West Bros how it should be done.
Live for Speed, great job, great potential and an excellent demo show casing
things to come.

You overestimate the importance of this ng. First, there is never a
general consensus about anything (GP4 sales vs. ng verdict). Second, if
they only sell to the guys from ras, they'd need a lot of teddy bear
sales to make a buck...
