I picked it up today at EB, actually! It was released without much
fanfare, but my initial impressions are good. 8-player network option,
at least 2 new tracks (don't know if any new bonus tracks exist), and a time
of day setting (morning, midday, night), slightly improved main menu, and a
joystick configuring utility. That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure
there are other, smaller improvements. I really like the 2 new tracks, but
whether it's worth $50 is another matter.
There is a rebate offer for NFS owners (for only $15), and they want
your original NFS CD, the dated original *receipt*(?!), and the registration
card, completely filled in. Leave anything out (where *is* that receipt?), and
they bounce it back to you. Include everything, and wait 6 weeks for $15. Your
call. But I would recommend fellow NFS enthusiasts to run out and buy it. :)
It's been out for the better part of a week + now. I've seen it in two different
stores here in Iowa.
It is out now. I just picked up a copy at the local Best Buy for $45.

I saw it at WaldenSoftware yesterday (Saturday). The release
date sticker that the store put on was 7/1. Hope this helps.

Saw it in the store the other day. I looked at the box and had
to wonder why in the world they released another version of NFS.
Here's what I remember:
-Two new tracks
-New music during play
-Dawn, Noon, or Dusk play
-Probably one or two that I forgot
There's nothing here to make me spend another $45. Am I missing
something. Please tell me that I am.

>That's about it. It doesn't look too bad. If you registered the original NFS, you're supposed to receive a coupon or something so=

Mark,
I got mine in the mail yesterday...cracked it open and installed it on my
machine here under Windows 95...it trashed my Video driver (Diamond
Stealth) and when I tried to install it under DOS 6 the sound wouldn't
work (Creative SB 16) while the original NFS works fine! So far...major
loser in my book...will have to work with it a bit more than the original
to get it to work correctly. DON'T install under Windows until we know
more about this puppy.
New tracks....awesome!

THey want the receipt for NFS SE, not NFS. What, did you run home and lose the
receipt already? Did it fly out the car because you were going so fast you
couldnt wait to play?
Few things I noticed that they added: In-car view now models car-tilting in
corners, which was missing in NFS. In NFS the only way you see body roll is in
an outside view.
You now get a big bounce when landing from a jump.
The tracks dont go "backwards" as much when going fast. (better screen
update?)
For $50? I dont know.. At least add a car or two. This shouldve been a patch,
like Bullfrog did with Hi-Octane (patch and extra tracks in one). I would
expect NFS2 to be $50, not the "update".
You get a $15 rebate if you buy it in a store or you can buy it direct for $24
if you turn in your old version.
The changes are worth $24 - the cars drive much more realistically and the TOD
settings are awesome. The 2 new tracks are great and ALL your old secrets are
still in place like VEGAS and the WARRIOR car and Egypt
