Nordschleife in F1 2002: How / where?

Hi folks,

I've heard some people have managed to import an obscure
conversion of GPL's Nordschleife into F1 2002. I would be most
glad for any pointers and / or Howtos!

Thanks in advance for your time,

Uwe

You need Ruud van Gaal's program GPLex to start things off. That'll convert
the GPL Ring into VRML. It does make a bit of a mess as it does so though,
so you've a lot of work ahead of you.

Alternatively, you can ask the Simbin people about their F1 2002 version,
although they appear to have stopped talking about it over the last couple
of months, I guess they're working on GTR mod instead. The Simbin people
appear to have a very good understanding of F1 2002 cars and tracks, but
they refuse to help the F1 2002 community it seems... "help me" questions
never ever get an answer on their forums.

There's a joint SCGT/Racer Ring project running at the moment, and there
should hopefully be a new release for both sims in the next few weeks. This
won't be converted to F1 2002 but there's no intention to lock the 3d files
either, so you'd be able to do a *** conversion for your own use. Here's
the info on that one....

Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,

thanks for your reply! I was aware of the Racer conversion, and
I had hoped that something was still in the works for F1
2002... or LFS! ;-)

Is SCGT worth buying (off ebay, for instance), just to be able
to drive the Nordschleife? I've heard a lot of good things
about SCGT, but also not-so-good.

Cheers,

uwe

I don't have SCGT myself but if I saw it in a bargain bin I would probably
pick it up... the SCGT Nordschleife version is mainly GEETi's work and he'll
release it sometime in the next few weeks. One week after that we'll release
that exact same track version for Racer, and then at some point in the
future we'll update the Racer version with more accuracy and more detail.

With the help of half a dozen "Ringers" we've gathered data from combined
GPS-and-accelerometer boxes which means we can correct the errors in the GPL
circuit (which appears to have been based on aerial photographs, and so it's
generally OK, but there's quite a bit of distortion).

Racer isn't the finished sim that SCGT is, though. :0)

Hi Uwe

Great to have helpful people like Jim about isnt it..nice 1 Jim :)

Regarding SCGT......

I bought it in 1999 as the basic game and loved it,the online performance
being my only gripe.

Then over the next 3 years i have revisited it a number of times due to the
excellent 3rd party support it has, which has provided some great additions
both in tracks, cars, updates and utilities. For nit picking purists there is
the choice of standard semi-sim mode or full sim via a patch, which does make
those corners require thought and not a foot to the floor sweep,so i feel it
has something for everyone.

The latest awesome addition for me personally was Le Mans v1.01.....which
with present high powered PC's and graphic cards can be ran at full res, full
field...looks stunning and drives even better....and the main bonus being
that with broadband's ever greater popularity i have actually had a 5 car
online session at Le Mans too...not quite 24 hours but it was mighty
close...LOL.

As a stand alone original game it is great, updated it is very good...and
with the chance of driving the Nordschleife too...it's just got even better.

You wont regret buying it....it is only 4.99 here in UK.

Have fun

I totally agree with the last post...I got it for $20us with five other
games...the rest are in the trash..LONG ago...and SCGT has meg's of space on my
HD with all the add-on cars and tracks...if you buy check out Speedsims when it
comes back and High Gear...both have forums where you can get lots of SCGT
specific help
