MS FF and MGPRS2 (long)

I recently received the UK version of MGPRS2.  Upon trying to install it, I got
a GPF when the install routine was scanning for DirectX drivers.  So, I ran the
uninstall for MGPRS2, opened up my Close Program menu, and closed EVERYTHING
except Explorer.  Tried to reinstall MGPRS2.  Same problem.  The third time was
the charm -- the full 3Dfx install worked successfuly, and DirectX6 was
installed successfully as well.

Now I'm all ready to run the game!  I hit the desktop icon, my screen goes
black, I see the 3Dfx splash logo on my screen, then back to the desktop with
the following:

MGPRS_V caused an invalid page fault in
module MGPRS_V.EXE at 024f:0056b9e1.

Followed by register contents, and so on.  I did some research on the forum at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
the same issues, and they all seemed to be running the MS FF wheel (which I am
running).  Ubisoft has been very sluggish in their responses via e-mail for
tech support, so I'm hoping someone on RAS can possibly help.  I did try
uninstalling both MGPRS2 and the Sidewinder software, re-installing MGPRS2, but
to no avail.  I did read a post stating that this problem does not seem to
occur under Win98, so I am contemplating that avenue as well.

Hardware List:
Dell PII 300mHz
96MB RAM
Creative AWE64 sound card
Matrox MilleniumII 8MB 2D video card
Diamond Monster 3D 8MB 3D video card
MS FF wheel through Creative port

Software:
Win95
IE 4.0 SP1
DirectX6 (I did try MGPRS2 with DirectX5, but same results)
Latest drivers from Creative, Matrox, and DiamondMM for devices above

This is probably not much help, but I am running MGPRS2 with an MS FF
wheel with no problems. I am running it in Win 98, and I had MGPRS2
installed for a while before the MS FF if this makes any difference.

It might be -- my next move was to install 98 over top, reinstall MGPRS2, and
then the FF software -- I'll let you know if it works.........

I also have Win98 and MS FF and can play MGPRS2 with no problems.  I
don't think the order is important, as I had this in the opposite
order: i.e. I had the MS FF first, and MGPRS2 second.  Works great for
me, although the force feedback effects aren't very strong.

I had exactly the same problem. Tried everything I could think of but with
no results. Tech support were no help at all. I gave the game back in the
end.
