F1 2000 w/DDR GeForce? go or no-go?

by RacerMa » Thu, 13 Apr 2000 04:00:00

My DDR GeForce hasn't got here yet, but I'm reading up on some GeForce info
anyway.  I visited this site http://www.racesimcentral.net/
GeForce game compatibility info, and to my dismay I see F1 2000 listed in
the "does not work" section, with this bit of info:

"Suffers from very poor performance for some, works great for others. What's
the difference between the two setups?, oddly it appears to be DDR vs. SDR
memory. GeForce owners with SDR boards run the game fine while DDR owners
experience the poor performance."

Has anyone played F1 2000 with a DDR GeForce?  If so, does it work ok?  I
hope to be one of the lucky ones I guess.

I have just fitted a DDR Geforce for F12000

lifted the frame rate into the mid 20's

Game is alot better now and worth staying with

I thought it was pants until I got a decent frame rate.

DDR Geforce rocks.. Makes my two Voodoo2's in SLI look sad..

Haven't heard of slowdowns

Im not sure if it is statistically significant ,but my experience with f2000
and the DDR geforce was quite poor. The system that it was running on was a
550e at 133x5.5 for 733mhz.There were three of us hooked up and the guy with
the ddr complained all night about his performance. My 750 k7 and V3 seemed
to perform quite a bit better.
The next weekend we switched the geforce with the good old V3 and all the
crying stopped.

Well I got my GeForce later yesterday, and it's obvious now that my cpu is

little framerate difference between the tnt2 non-ultra and the ddr geforce.
At Barcelona (with everything set to maximum, except for low sky and no
mirrors) in 800x600 I get between 17-34fps depending where I am on the
circuit, and that's about what I had with the tnt2.  I realize I could tone
down the detail just a tad, but I really didn't notice a big fps hit when I
went from everything set to medium detail, to everything maximized.  Granted
all I do is hotlaps by myself for now, which obviously is another story from
having other cars rendered on the track.

Time to save up for a new cpu I guess now.....

F1 2000 w/DDR GeForce? go or no-go?

I have had no problems with my Creative Labs Anihilator Pro (DDR).

Getting frame rates in the 50's mid race. Detail near MAX, except Textures
(set to HIGH).
Mirrors ON drops it down to mid 30's. Otherwise no problem at all - a
SIGNIFICANT step up from my Voodoo2.

I am running on a Celeron 366 (oc to 550) with 196Mb RAM. with LWFF and
Force Feedback on.

Hope that sets some minds at rest.

Both really, the GeForce could handle more when being fed geometry
info. But I guess F12K doesn't have accelerated geometry code, or
rather, Direct3D doesn't use it. That might still improve things a
lot, the matrix calculations done on the card.
But for the way it is with THIS software, you've reached the
bottleneck yes. Other software might benefit though from the move from
TNT2U to DDR-GeForce.
