I'd say that GP2 has pretty much modelled real-life Formula One competition.
That may be bad news for some, but I like it because the cars that I have to
pass are now spread apart instead of all in a pack. Easier task. :-)
Aside from backmarkers and pitstops (as you mentioned), the only other time
you'll see passing is when a faster car gets a slow start and is passed by
slower cars. Then the faster car will move back up and get by them eventually.
Oh, I forgot; the front-runners will also occasionally get in trouble and spin
off the track, losing positions while they try to find a way to get back on. I
was watching (yeah, I wasn't playing) a race on Monza where pole-sitter Damon
Hill got off to a poor start and got punted from behind at the first double
chicane on the opening lap, dropping him to 26th (last) as he waited in the
gravel trap for the other cars to go by. He then blew through the field to
finish 3rd (behind Schu and Coulthard).
Hill would've finished 5th if both Alesi and Berger didn't drop their Ferraris
out of the race lead with suspension failure and oil leak, respectively. (I
LOVE realism!)

Yup, just like F1GP/WC. Unfortunately, it's not as configurable as the
DRIVERS2.TXT in NASCAR and ICR2 (at least until the cool GP2 utils/hacks show
up).
