GP2 TOO REAL??!!

by glen.. » Sun, 28 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Just curious if others have experienced the "reality" of GP2 yet.

I am driving the #8 McLaren, and have done 3 consecutive quick races at
Silverstone.  In each of the 3 races, I have been leading on the last lap
going into Maggots when the engine blows up.

I distinctly remember Martin Brundle in the same car blowing up as the 94
British GP began, but this is getting a bit ridiculous :-)

Has anyone else also noticed that the speed indicator on the top of the
dash changes from kph to mph when you cross the start/finish line at
Monaco.  Maybe a bug ?

On a different tack, is it coincidence that all the series (F1, IndyCar and
NASCAR) that have sims, this weekend have races at their fastest tracks (I
know that Monza has a higher average speed than Hockenheim, but surely the
cars have a higher top speed at Hockenheim).

Here's hoping its a Marlboro/Miller weekend.

Were these DIFFERENT races, or did you reload a save game and restart
the race? Engine blowups and other failures are calculated before the
race starts, in order to stop people reloading and gaining an unfair
advantage. If you reloaded the same save game, you'll have the same
failure.

No, but I'll try to look. Shit, I haven't got time to do anything at
Monaco but flail at the wheel and pedals - I manage a quick prayer
during the run up toward *** Square, but that's about it :)

The difference is, the Hockenheim race is considered one of F1's most
boring. Speed alone doth not an interesting spectacle make (as
Confucious once said). That said, the last few laps were really good. A
shame Berger blew up and deprived Alesi of the win. "Alesi?!?!" I hear
you cry? Of course - surely you don't think Hill would get past Berger
without taking them both off.... :)

Cheers!
John

Hi !
.. did 100% length race at Hockenheim, had to reload my saved game at
lap 42 - couldn't resist the temptation to overtake Hill (0.8 sec just
behind him).. anyway, i reloaded the game 3 times. First attempt, we both
went out, didn't finish. 2nd attempt, unable to catch up with hill, finished
3rd, hill 2nd & schumacher 1st.

Finally, 3rd attempt, i was able to overtake hill at the final chicane
in lap 43. I was some 8 secs behind schumacher when a message came out
saying schumacher is out of the race.... win my first 100% race unexpectedly.

So i was wondering about this pre-race calculation thing ... is it really
a fixed race ?

regards,
hisham

Not True. I had a race at Sain and tried three times to complete the
race (From a saved game)  The first two I had transmission trouble on
the same corner, but the third time I changed the way I drove the race
ie. I changed up a little earlier and down a little later so as not to
stress the trans as much.  Voila I won the race, pretty clever stuff if
you ask me!!!!!

Each time my engine blew up, it was a new quick race. In fact I
noticed during the past week that my engine will blow at Silverstone
in a quick race on the last lap, regardless of my race position.
