Nascar2 and Win98

I am trying to help someone with N2 on a win98 system. We can get the game
to run but only with the CD inserted and there is no sound once it starts.
The sound card is fine with everything but N2. We did a complete install
and we set the desktop shortcut to C:\nascar2\nascar2.exe (instead of
C:\nascar2\N2.bat). Everytime we use setup.exe to determine a sound card,
it locks up.
  The game works fine on my Win95 system. I never have to use the CD to
start the program. On the Win98 system, the game hangs at: Running from C:
drive .Then nothing happens until you put the CD in and <enter>, then the
game finishes loading and we get the main game menu as normal. Anybody had
any luck with N2 under Win98?

Thanks

I can run N2 in Win98 but I also have no sound.  Sound card works in all
other games.

I run N2/NR1999 from within W98. I have my Ensoniq AudioPCI
setup with the proper drivers which include SB DOS compatibility
from a DOS box which works fine. You need to run Soundset and
try to have your soundcard detected. If that fails just select the
minimum SoundBlaster choice (mono I think). You need to know
your IRQ, Base Address and DMA though. Also note that many
Windows soundcards (like the montego) will just not run N2/NR1999
that well. I got a Montego with my new Dell 450 and it just would
not give sound on the track with NR1999 (dos) at all. And the Windows
version did work but sounded like crapola. I went back to my AudioPCI
which works great with all Windows and DOS games.

Add the following line to your Autoexec.bat file and restart your PC.

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T3

A= address
I=IRQ
D=DMA

You may have to configure it based on the settings in windows.
