GPL and XP = Problems

by BRH » Wed, 25 Jun 2003 11:28:15

I"ve installed GPL on my new drive with XP and I'm having problems.
Basically, GPL will start and is fine up to where you select a track.  When
I select a track, it returns me to the desktop.

This is the procedure I followed in installing:

I wanted to keep all of my settings from my old drive (Win98), so I copied
all of the files in the c:sierra/gpl folder over to the new drive.  At this
point, GPL would not start at all, so I decided to install from the GPL CD
over it, then applied the 1.2 patch, the D3D patch and then the fast CPU
patch (in that order).  That left me with the situation that I'm in.  It
won't even run under Compatibility mode.

GPL is installed on an NTFS partition, and the videocard is a Radeon
9700Pro, running the latest Cat 3.5 drivers (just release today), and SBLive
card.  I know that the SBLive card will give me sound problems, but GPL
should at least run, right?

Any help/suggestions in getting GPL to work correctly would be greatly
appreciated.  (Thank Goodness that I still have it on the old Win98 drive.
I just swap out the drive and I'm up and running.  But, I want to run
everything under XP eventually....)

Thanks!
Bert

try gem+, a utility that lets you use all kinds of graphic accelerators. For
the soundblaster, turn the hardware acceleration off to get proper sounds.
with xp, im getting all kinds of errors installing winvroc too, but luckely
the only thing you have to do is ignore them.

To get rid of the WinVROC errors, rename or delete (depending on how brave
you are) "riched.dll" (or somesuch) from the Program Files\VROC\WinVROC
directory.

You don't have to be very brave to delete it. :)
WinXP will use the correct dll found in \Windows\system32\ (riched32.dll)
