GPL Online Bug

by John Simmo » Wed, 02 Dec 1998 04:00:00

When I host races, several cars end up with a car number of "0".  It
doesn't seem to be limited to any particular chassis (last night at
Monza, I had an Eagle, two Lotus', a Ferrari, and a Brabham - all with
the number "0".  The cars themselves had no car numbers on them.

It didn't appear to have any relationship to the order of joining, but I
think I remember it happening after the first guy discoed.

I have some theories, but that's all I've got....  The next thing that
starts happening after #0's given to entries, is no lap times collected
during practice.   I think that GPL has a "stack" for containing this
information and the more people connect/disconnect eventually the stack
fills up and there is no more room to assign new numbers or lap times.
If you notice, if a player disconnects and reconnects, GPL "remembers"
their car number and their practice times.

I highly suggest resetting GPL after each race when hosting online to
help avoid the above problems.  When I do this, I rarely see these
happening (unless there is a large number of people connecting,
disconnecting and the total number of people who have joined at one time
is much greater than 20).

Again, just a theory.
