F1-2002 CTD after race finish?

by Kendt Eklu » Fri, 08 Nov 2002 02:37:31

I've started messing with F1-2002 in anticipation of the GT-2002 mod,
and to check out the cool Alfa mod, but I've been getting annoying
stutters, and it consistently CTD's at the end of a race session.
I've been playing with graphic settings, and that hasn't helped the
CTD's - I haven't had time to try all combos of graphic/sound settings
to fix the stutters, either.
Win98SE, Gf4-4200, XP2100+ CPU, 512mb DDR RAM
I'm running the 30.82 nvidia drivers, and not-quite latest VIA
4-in-1's.
I'm contemplating going to the 40 Dets, but as a test, and to get
migrated I've gone ahead and setup a parallel install of XP Pro on a
new HD (using XOSL to hide the Win98SE boot partition).  I'm going to
try this with the latest 4-in-1s, Dets, etc.  I'm reluctant to run in
XP, though, because from what I've read you cannot completely
eliminate the wheel deadzone (because DxTweak doesn't work).  The XP
is really just for IL-2 (since I've read that framerates under XP are
*much* higher).
Anyone had similar problems?  Any tweaks?

TIA!

Hi Kendt,

When you say I have played with graphic settings, could you be more precise?

Are you aware of the technique of copying & pasting info from config.ini to
Alfa147.ini?

Have you turned FSAA off?

Crashing after the race means that you're crashing when the game takes
contro,l of what you see in a TV like fashion. This is a clear indication to
me that your prob is video related.

I used to see that in SCGT when I had a big modded track like
LeMans.  It was a memory overflow.  But with 512mb of ram that shouldn't be
a problem.
The config ini for each mod should match the bottom half of the f1 2002
config.ini file.  Make sure that everything under the line:
gridsize = 22

is exactly the same on your mod as the original f1 file.
good luck.

FSAA off (in game and via Rivatuner) and still no luck, even with card
settings back to normal and Rivatuner unloaded.  I get crashes even
with a fresh unmodded install.
I'm downloading everything I'll need to get the 40 dets running under
XP - I'll post back results if it works.  I better have this sorted by
the time GT-2002 comes out or I'll go nuts ;)!

Thanks!

[snip]

XP and the 40.72 fixed it - OH YES!
I setup a "*** tuned" XP install (turning off all extra services),
installed the 40.72 dets, the latest Rivatuner, and did some 3dmark
benchmarks.  Without OC'ing the card, my system benched faster than it
ever did in Win98SE - and get this, I can OC my 4200 (128mb) to
320core/580mem stable, which is much higher than I was getting in
Win98SE.  So far F12k2 is all I have installed, and I'm worried about
the fact that my pedals are controller 1 and my wheel is controller 2
(which means I can't just copy all my configs over from 98).  A race
with 2xFSAA went just fine.
So far so good - I've got alot of re-installing ahead of me :).
