Ok, I just tried qualifying for Kyalami.  My PB there is 1:24.83.  During
qualifying, the *slowest* AI time was 1:24.64.  WTF?!?  I had the npt_override
and override_difficulty_hype set to 1.0, and I deleted the RECORDS.INI file for
Kyalami.  Did I misunderstand how I should set it?  Do I have to re-install
GPL?  Or do I *really* have to delete the player.sts file?  I *really* don't
want to delete that one.  I worked HARD for those PB's...  :-)
Help!

Quick soloution to loosing the PB's...make a spreadsheet with Lotus 1-2-3/
Excell/ whatever you have and keep the PB times in there.  I did that even
should i have to re-install GPL id still have a record of my PB's.

You should grab the AI Tweaker by Kari Ikonen. Works  awesome, the best tool
for offline ai adjustments. GUI  Get it from the apex, the u.s. pits or the
fast lane, let me know if you can't find it.

you did not do anything wrong, but you could use the AI-tweaker
available at the pits to get them slower ...

Eldred,

Just make your player.sts file read only.

I use a programm called 'corel draw' to draw my PB, print it and use an
old fashined thing called a brain to memorize it ... SCNR ;-)

Thanks.  I already HAVE the AI Tweaker program.  I just want to gauge myself
against the 'out-of-the-box' AI, without having to slow them down.  I'm trying
to AVOID slowing them down.  I'd rather get FASTER...<g>

The AI is quite fast (realistic?) when npt_override is set to the "baseline
level" 1.00.  I think setting it to 1.20 has the same effect as deleting
player.sts, except that the AI doesn't become faster as you improve.   The
times you see in the "Best Laps" charts are stored in player.ini.
Player.sts contains your ten best times for each track, which affect the AI
speed if npt_override is left to 0.00.  If I remember correctly, setting
override_difficulty_hype to 1.0 makes AI speed same regardless of race type
(novice, intermediate etc.).

The player.sts file is a generated file.  That is, when you install GPL,
there is no player.sts file.  It is generated for each driver profile
created.  You can open the file with WordPad or NotePad, edit out the
current info, and GPL will treat you as a new, (slow) player.  Make the file
read-only and GPL will always treat you as a new player.  WARNING #1:  I
have never actually done this so be sure to back up your current player.sts
before proceeding.  WARNING #2:  Once, after a fresh install, I made my
player.sts file read-only.  The AI drives slow, just as you'd expect.  But
after awhile I noticed I wasn't getting any faster or consistent, so I
removed the read only aspect of player.sts..  I need the AI to push me.

Hope this helps.

The .sts file or the .ini file?  When I look at the .sts file in notepad OR
wordpad, it shows up as garbage...  The .ini file is readable, and has my fast
times in it.
