GPL and the Green Stuff

by Peter » Fri, 04 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Hi gang,
Well, someones just gotta help me here.... had my new pc delivered
yesterday (PIII 600, 128mb RAM, 32mb TNT2 AGP, 17gb HD) and have just
installed GPL on it and patched it up to 1.2, using the OpenGL driver.
Trouble is I now find that there's all this this green stuff all around
the tracks and buildings and fluffy stuff up in the sky... whats going
on ;O))).

Have been driving GPL previously on my trusty ol' P233mmx, 64mb RAM,
16mb Voodoo Banshee with lots of detail turned off so this has cmoe as
quiet a shock to the ol' eyes. Boy it's hard enough dribing this thing
without all that scenery to admire as well.

Anyway, have to say this absolutely rocks... already loved the sim
since I first got the demo but to be able to run it with everything on
and 19 ai cars is a wonder to behold....

OH boy... gotta get back to some driving... work in the morning but know
i'll be thinking of nothing but GPL all day.

Cheers

Peter Hooper

I think you missed the point Dave.

Peter was being ironic. The screen is covered with green stuff cos he
hadn't seen that much detail before with his old graphics card.

Besides, I'm not sure what you're on about. As another post said, I too
have been running GPL for 4 months with a TNT2 Ultra 770 and everything
works fine. 1028x760, 19 AI cars, all the details on, 36fps all the time
except for the starts when it drops to about 22fps. No problems at all.
I think it's becoming a myth that you can't play GPL with a TNT.

I run GPL with a TNT 1, and I get 36fps all the time (1024x768).
I had to adjust the mirror refresh rate, thats true, but I feel the whole
anti TNT hype makes no sense at all.
If you bought banshee or Voodoo and you like it, thats fine with me.
I'm very sure that those who got a TNT or TNT2 card are just as happy.

But GPL is my sim of choice so Glide is what I need.
Why would I want to waste my money on a card that isnt supported by the
software I run ?
When the next great sim arrives, I'll get whatever card suits it.
